Mattress Firm’s eligible mattress trial runs for 120 days from original delivery, with a 30-night adjustment period. One exchange and/or one return is allowed, with a listed $249.99 processing charge per event. Excluded products, condition requirements, attached law tags and promotion deductions can affect eligibility and refunds.
How to start a return
In a store
- Contact the selling store with the invoice and original delivery date.
- Confirm trial eligibility, condition, fees and the remaining deadline.
- Arrange inspection and collection; keep the refund calculation.
Online or by mail
- Contact official customer support with the order information.
- Explain whether this is a comfort return or a delivery problem.
- Follow the arranged collection instructions; do not independently ship or dispose of the mattress.
What is the Mattress Firm return policy?
Mattress Firm’s 120 Night Sleep Trial covers eligible mattresses, subject to product, condition and fee rules. The window runs from the delivery date of the originally purchased mattress. The retailer asks customers to sleep on it for at least 30 nights before using the comfort trial.
The trial allows one exchange and/or one return per purchase, all within that original 120-day period. It is not a promise that every product sold by Mattress Firm can be returned for four months, and it is not a free-return program.
Check your invoice for the exact mattress, delivery date and promotional items. Keep the product’s original law tags attached and protect it from stains or damage. Those details affect eligibility as much as the calendar. An excluded adjustable base or clearance mattress does not become trial-eligible merely because it was delivered recently.
Why do you need to wait 30 nights before returning a mattress?
The trial asks for a minimum of 30 nights so you can assess the mattress after an adjustment period. If you are still uncomfortable after that, contact the store or support about an eligible exchange or return within the original window.
Keep the delivery date recorded and note when the first thirty nights have passed. If the mattress feels unsuitable near the end of the trial, start the conversation promptly; waiting until the final day leaves little room to resolve eligibility or arrange collection.
A damaged delivery or wrong product is a different concern from comfort after trying the mattress. Report those issues promptly instead of waiting thirty nights on the assumption that every problem belongs to the sleep trial. The published adjustment request should not be used to delay a delivery-error report.
How much does a Mattress Firm return or exchange cost?
The current trial lists a $249.99 return processing charge. An eligible exchange incurs that charge, and returning the exchange mattress incurs another $249.99. The policy does not describe unlimited free swaps until you find a mattress you like.
For a simple illustration, exchanging once and then returning the replacement would involve $499.98 in processing charges, before other applicable adjustments. A single eligible trial return has the listed $249.99 charge. Ask the store for the calculation tied to your order.
State use taxes can further reduce the refunded purchase price. Gift-with-purchase promotions can also affect the amount. Do not estimate the final refund by subtracting only the processing fee from the original invoice total: that invoice may include excluded accessories, delivery services or promotional products with their own treatment.
| Trial event | Listed processing charge |
|---|---|
| One eligible return | $249.99 |
| One eligible exchange | $249.99 |
| Exchange followed by a return | $499.98 combined |
| Other adjustments | Applicable taxes and promotion deductions may affect the result |
| Hawaii provision | Restocking fee exception; confirm itemized charge wording |
How does an exchange affect the refund and deadline?
For an eligible exchange, Mattress Firm credits the original mattress purchase price toward a different mattress, with the processing charge applied. Ask for the replacement’s price and the complete amount due before agreeing to it.
If the replacement is also unsuitable, the policy allows a return of that exchange mattress with another processing charge. The described refund uses the purchase price of the exchange mattress, reduced by applicable charges and taxes. It should not automatically be quoted as the first mattress’s price.
The original delivery date still controls. For example, an exchange around day ninety does not create another 120-day trial; the remaining time is roughly thirty days, subject to the actual dates and arranging the return within the original window. Confirm the deadline and scheduling with the store when choosing the replacement.
How do you start a Mattress Firm return?
Contact the store that handled your purchase or Mattress Firm customer support with the sales receipt, order number and original delivery date. State whether you want a comfort exchange, refund or help with a damaged or incorrect delivery.
Ask the team to confirm the mattress’s eligibility, the processing charge, the expected refund calculation and the collection arrangements. The published policy says drivers inspect returned products before accepting them, so a return needs an arranged route; do not bring a mattress to a store unannounced and assume it can be taken at the counter.
Keep the instructions and appointment information. If you are close to day 120, tell the team at the start and ask how the return must be completed within the window. An unanswered message should not be treated as a guaranteed extension.
Can you return a stained, damaged or used mattress?
Trying the mattress is the purpose of an eligible sleep trial, so ordinary use is different from damage or unsanitary condition. Mattress Firm says stained, unsanitary or damaged mattresses cannot be exchanged or refunded under the trial.
Drivers inspect the mattress and foundation before acceptance. Products contaminated with insects cannot be removed, and damage caused by the customer is also listed among reasons for refusal. Check the condition before arranging collection so you can accurately describe what the drivers will find.
The retailer strongly recommends a waterproof mattress protector to keep the mattress clean. That recommendation is not worded as a universal requirement to purchase a particular protector from Mattress Firm. The condition requirement still applies whether you bought a protector there, elsewhere or did not use one.
Do you have to keep the mattress law tag attached?
Yes. Removing the original white law tag from the mattress or foundation voids the 120 Night Sleep Trial under the posted terms. Keeping a detached tag in a drawer is not the same as leaving it attached.
Do not confuse the law tag with a removable delivery sticker or a packaging label. If you are uncertain which label is involved, ask the store before removing it. The original tag helps identify the product and is specifically included in the return inspection rules.
Before the pickup appointment, look at both the mattress and foundation and tell the team if a required tag is missing. An appointment confirmation does not override an inspection failure. Keep purchase and delivery records too, but do not assume they replace the attached-tag condition.
Are pillows, protectors, furniture and adjustable bases returnable?
The 120-night trial excludes pillows, mattress protectors, furniture and other accessories. Adjustable bases are also excluded, with a stated exception for TEMPUR-ActiveBreeze Smart Bed adjustable bases. Do not extend that exception to every Tempur-Pedic or adjustable product.
A bundle can therefore contain one eligible mattress and several products outside the sleep trial. Review each line on the invoice rather than treating the bed setup as a single returnable item. Ask what happens to an excluded base before committing to a mattress exchange.
A product-specific defect or warranty request is separate from comfort-trial eligibility. Contact the store about the exact accessory and its written terms if something is wrong. The mattress trial alone does not establish a 120-day change-of-mind refund right for everything bought with it.
Can you return a clearance, outlet or floor-model mattress?
Clearance, outlet and preowned merchandise, along with floor and display models, are excluded from the 120 Night Sleep Trial. A recently purchased discounted mattress can therefore have a different comfort-return outcome from a qualifying new mattress.
Look for those descriptions on the sales receipt and product listing. A sale promotion on an otherwise qualifying new mattress is not necessarily the same classification as an outlet or display model. The specific merchandise designation matters.
Before buying, ask the associate to identify the classification in writing and explain any separate coverage. After purchase, contact the store if the classification or product delivered does not match what you expected. Do not assume the standard trial or a manufacturer warranty applies simply because the seller is Mattress Firm.
Are California King and other special-order sizes final sale?
The posted trial treats special-order mattress and foundation sizes as final sale and ineligible for exchanges or returns. Examples include California King, Split California King, three-quarter, crib and futon sizes.
There is an explicit California exception: California King and Split California King are not considered special order in that state and can qualify under the applicable comfort policies. That exception does not remove the trial’s timing, condition or fee requirements.
Ask the store how your size and purchase location are classified before ordering or requesting a return. A size commonly displayed online is not automatically outside the special-order rule everywhere. Keep the invoice showing the exact dimensions and model, particularly when a custom or unusual size was ordered for a specific frame.
Does Hawaii have a different return fee?
The policy states that the restocking fee does not apply in Hawaii. Elsewhere on the same page, the trial’s charge is called a return processing charge. The different wording is a reason to confirm the actual Hawaii calculation with the store.
Do not turn that sentence into a promise that every pickup, delivery or processing cost is waived. Ask the team to identify each charge on your order and explain which one the Hawaii provision removes.
Keep that calculation with the return confirmation. It is useful if a deduction later differs from what you were told. The geographic fee provision also does not make an excluded product eligible or remove the original 120-day deadline. Product and condition rules still need to be checked alongside the location-specific wording.
How long does a Mattress Firm refund take?
Refund timing depends on how you paid. For a credit-card purchase, Mattress Firm says to allow 7–10 business days for the refund to be processed to the same card. Cash or check purchases receive a mailed check, which the policy says arrives in 2–4 weeks.
Check that the address on file is correct if the remedy is a mailed check. A cash purchase does not imply a cash payout at the counter. Refunds are issued in the purchasing customer’s name as shown on the sales receipt.
Keep the completed return information and ask when the refund was processed. The pickup date and the date the credit appears are different milestones. If the expected period passes, use the order number and confirmation when contacting support so it can trace the actual refund.
How does a refund work if the mattress was financed?
For a financed purchase, Mattress Firm says the refund can take up to two billing cycles to appear on the account. That estimate differs from the credit-card and mailed-check timeframes.
Ask for the amount being credited and keep the return confirmation. Check the financing account for the adjustment rather than expecting Mattress Firm to hand you the entire financed purchase value in cash.
A scheduled pickup does not by itself show that the financing balance has been updated. If the credit has not appeared after the posted period, contact Mattress Firm with the processing details and ask the financing provider about the account record. Questions about any continuing payment obligation should be addressed to that provider using your agreement; the retailer’s return page does not answer every billing question.
What happens to free gifts or discounted bundle items?
A gift-with-purchase promotion can reduce the refund. If you cancel, return or otherwise receive a refund for the qualifying purchase, Mattress Firm says you must pay the value of the promotional gift items, and that amount may be deducted from the refund.
The rule includes a free or discounted item offered because you bought a particular product or spent a qualifying amount. A product advertised as free with the mattress does not automatically remain free after the qualifying mattress is returned.
Ask for an itemized calculation before completing the return. Identify the mattress price, processing charge, promotional-item value and other applicable adjustments. Do not assume returning the gift necessarily eliminates its deduction without confirmation; the published promotion rule and your order’s terms determine how the package is handled.
Can you return a mattress after 120 days, or use the warranty instead?
The comfort trial ends within 120 days of the original mattress delivery. The policy does not promise an automatic comfort refund after that point. A manufacturer warranty may provide a separate route for a covered defect, depending on the product and warranty terms.
Warranty replacement products do not receive a new Mattress Firm 120-night trial. The manufacturer’s warranty applies to them. That distinction matters if you receive a replacement months after the original purchase.
Read the warranty documentation and contact the warranty team about the actual problem. Mattress Firm says an approved covered claim can provide in-store credit toward a mattress, subject to additional terms. A preference for a softer or firmer bed should not automatically be described as a manufacturing defect, and warranty coverage should not be presented as a guaranteed cash refund.
Can you get a price adjustment instead of returning the mattress?
Mattress Firm’s low-price guarantee is separate from the sleep trial. Its policy describes matching an advertised lower price for the same or a comparable mattress set within 120 days of purchase. Notice the clock: the price guarantee uses purchase, while the sleep trial uses original delivery.
Bring the advertisement and invoice to the store for review. The stated remedy is an account credit or mailed check for the qualifying difference. Clearance, outlet, preowned, floor and display merchandise are excluded, as are auction-site offers.
If your only concern is a lower advertised price, ask about that route before arranging an exchange or pickup. It does not require treating a satisfactory mattress as uncomfortable. The store still needs to assess whether the advertisement and mattress meet the guarantee’s matching terms.
Who can help with a Mattress Firm return or delivery problem?
Call 1-877-384-2903 or use the official customer service page. The store connected to your purchase can also help identify the mattress, invoice terms and applicable return route.
For a damaged or incorrect delivery, report the problem promptly with the order number and delivery details. Keep packaging, photos and the invoice available while the team explains the next step. Do not dispose of the product or arrange independent removal before confirming what is required.
For a comfort return, provide the original delivery date, product condition, attached-tag status and whether you have already exchanged once. Ask for the fee calculation, collection instructions and refund destination. Keeping those answers together gives you a usable record of the return instead of relying only on the general promise of a sleep trial.
