Scheels
return policy.

Scheels offers a 90-day general return window, with shorter equipment rules and product-specific exclusions.

October 7, 2026

The short answer

Scheels generally accepts eligible online and store purchases within 90 days of purchase. Online mail returns use a free prepaid label; eligible online orders can also go to a store. Items need their original condition, packaging and components for a full refund. With proof of purchase, refunds generally go to the original payment method; without proof, bring valid state-issued ID and expect store credit. Hockey sticks, collectible products, opened car seats and other excluded items have different rules.

01 / THE DETAILS

How long do you have to return a Scheels purchase?

The general Scheels return window is 90 days from purchase for eligible online and in-store merchandise. The official page does not describe the standard period as 90 days from delivery, so save the purchase confirmation and use that date when planning. A slow shipment does not establish a later deadline under the stated purchase-date rule.

Check the category before choosing a return date. Online hockey sticks have a separate 30-day provision, and several products cannot be returned or exchanged at all. A manufacturer's warranty can remain available after an ordinary return period, but it is a different process with its own coverage requirements.

Allow time to retrieve the receipt, assemble the parts and ship the package if using the mail route. The policy says Scheels processes the return after receiving and verifying the product. Creating a label is a registration step; it does not demonstrate that a parcel has been handed over or accepted for a refund.

02 / THE DETAILS

Can you return worn, used or incomplete items to Scheels?

Scheels requires original packaging and original condition for a full refund. Its Help Center also says products must be complete, and that missing components can result in a partial refund. This is not a general promise that every used item qualifies for money back simply because it is less than 90 days old.

For a fit check, preserve the item as received until you decide. Keep removable accessories, manuals, cables, spare parts and branded packaging together. If something was already missing when the order arrived, describe that to support rather than presenting an incomplete package as an ordinary change-of-mind return.

Defective and damaged products have a support route, and some sporting equipment has special warranty terms. Those provisions should be checked for the actual product. For instance, the hockey-stick section allows possible handling of normal-use damage under its narrower rule; it does not extend that exception to every other item Scheels sells.

03 / THE DETAILS

Can missing parts reduce a Scheels refund?

Yes. The cited Help Center requires products to be complete and says missing components can result in a partial refund. Gather the included pieces before returning; being within 90 days does not by itself guarantee a full refund.

04 / THE DETAILS

Does Scheels accept returns without a receipt?

Scheels' store policy allows eligible returns without proof of purchase, but the outcome changes: you must show a valid state-issued ID, and the refund is store credit. A no-receipt return does not promise a cash refund or a credit to a payment card.

Before using that route, search for the original sales receipt or order confirmation. Proof identifies the purchase date, item and amount paid, which matters under the 90-day rule. For an online purchase, the confirmation email is also useful at the store and supplies the order number and email required by the online return portal.

The published no-proof provision does not create an exception to product exclusions or condition requirements. A nonreturnable category remains restricted even if you can show ID. Keep the return receipt and confirm the credit amount before leaving, especially if several products or discounts appeared on the original transaction. Ask the location for help if the available purchase record is incomplete.

05 / THE DETAILS

Can you return a Scheels online order to a store?

Yes. Scheels says eligible online and in-store purchases may be returned or exchanged at a local Scheels location within 90 days of purchase. Its Help Center specifically tells online customers to bring the order confirmation so the store can refund the original payment method.

Bring the item in its original condition with the packaging and all components. Have the confirmation ready on your phone or as a printed copy, and check the location's hours before transporting bulky equipment. A store return still follows the category's restrictions; a counter cannot turn an excluded product into ordinary returnable merchandise.

Keep the store-issued return receipt. It shows the transaction was completed and helps distinguish a processed refund from a return that is still awaiting inspection. If the original payment account has closed, Scheels' Help Center says an e-gift card will be issued. Confirm that destination before expecting a deposit to a canceled payment account.

06 / THE DETAILS

How do you start a free Scheels online return by mail?

Use the official Scheels returns portal and enter the order number and the email address used for the purchase. Both are available in the order confirmation. Follow the portal for the eligible products and obtain the prepaid return label rather than paying a carrier first and assuming Scheels will reimburse the charge.

Scheels advertises free mail-in returns for qualifying online purchases within 90 days. Package the product with its original packaging inside a suitable shipping container, attach the provided label and follow its carrier instructions. Save the tracking record and the carrier's acceptance receipt.

The company processes the return after it receives the original product and verifies it. A printed label alone does not mean a refund has started. If the portal cannot locate the purchase, check the order email and order number, then contact Scheels' Customer Experience team for help before sending an unregistered package to an address found elsewhere.

07 / THE DETAILS

What packaging should you use for a Scheels shoe or equipment return?

Keep the product's original packaging and place it inside another proper shipping container. Scheels' portal explicitly instructs customers to return shoes in their original shoe box inside a shipping container. The retail box identifies and protects the product; it should not be treated as an unprotected outer mailing carton.

Check that both shoes, any included laces or accessories, and the correct product box are present. For equipment, compare the contents with the original components, paperwork and parts. Do not assume the largest piece is the entire return when smaller attachments came with it.

Protect the item so it reaches Scheels in the condition you intend to return. Take a photo of the contents before sealing the parcel as a practical record, then retain tracking until the refund is resolved. The portal warns that refund amount or method can vary based on condition, and the Help Center says missing components may produce a partial refund.

08 / THE DETAILS

Does Scheels offer exchanges for another size or color?

Scheels separates the online and store options. Its main policy permits an in-store exchange for a product of equal or lesser value. Its Help Center says it does not process direct online exchanges; instead, return the original item for a refund and place a new order for the replacement.

An online return and a replacement purchase are two transactions. The new order can be charged while the old item's refund is still being processed. Check replacement availability and price before buying, and keep both order confirmations so they are not confused when contacting support.

For a store exchange, bring proof of purchase and the complete eligible item within the applicable window. Category restrictions still apply, including the narrower hockey-stick period and products that cannot be exchanged. If the item you want costs more, ask the store how to handle the purchase; the published equal-or-lesser-value provision does not establish an automatic price match or a free upgrade.

09 / THE DETAILS

How long does a Scheels refund take, and what charges are excluded?

Scheels estimates three to five business days after the return is processed for the money to appear in the payment account, depending on the bank or payment company. That estimate does not include the parcel's journey to Scheels or time needed to receive and verify the item.

The refund includes the product price and applicable sales tax. Original shipping fees, package-protection charges and other surcharges are nonrefundable. A free return label does not make every charge on the original order refundable, so compare the merchandise credit with the separate delivery and protection lines.

With proof of purchase, the store policy generally refunds the original payment method. Without proof, the remedy is store credit, and Scheels may issue a gift card under its refund provisions. If you closed the payment account, the Help Center says an e-gift card is issued. Keep the processing notification and use it when following up on an account that has not posted the expected credit.

10 / THE DETAILS

Which Scheels products cannot be returned or exchanged?

The main policy excludes gift cards, firearms and bows, ammunition, reloading powder and primers, and What Goes Around Comes Around pre-owned luxury goods. It also excludes car seats or bases once the box is opened and identifies products whose value diminishes when opened, including autographed memorabilia bought online, trading or sports cards, and mystery or surprise toys.

Scheels' Help Center adds opened LEGO sets to its exceptions and tells customers to contact the Customer Experience team about Canada Goose products, Garmin watches and unopened LEGO products. Check both the item and the current help instructions before removing a seal or arranging shipping.

A receipt establishes the purchase but does not override these categories. Preserve any seal, authentication materials and product listing while deciding. Scheels also reserves the right to refuse returns involving fraudulent histories, likely resale intent, or automated purchasing methods. The standard 90-day period is always subject to the actual product's eligibility.

11 / THE DETAILS

What is Scheels’ 30-day hockey-stick return rule?

A hockey stick purchased on Scheels.com has a 30-day period from the original purchase date. The policy permits returning it at a local Scheels store or using a prepaid return label. Its ordinary condition requirement for that return is new and unused.

The same section says a stick damaged through normal use may still be returned. That wording is conditional; it should not be treated as a guaranteed replacement for every break or as a 90-day equipment trial. Describe how the damage occurred and contact the Customer Experience team if eligibility is unclear.

Some sticks also carry a manufacturer's warranty. When a defect is covered by that warranty, Scheels says the manufacturer handles repair or replacement. Keep the order confirmation, receipt and model information so the correct route can be identified. Before mailing a damaged stick, confirm whether support wants a retail return or a manufacturer claim; the destination and required documentation may differ.

12 / THE DETAILS

How do Scheels bat and fishing-rod warranty claims work?

Scheels' return page directs customers with a defective baseball or softball bat to the manufacturer's warranty process. Retain the receipt or order confirmation because manufacturers often require proof of purchase. Follow the brand's instructions for a covered repair or replacement instead of assuming every failure can be refunded at a store.

Scheels Outfitters-branded fishing rods have a stated three-year warranty covering workmanship, materials and breakage during normal fishing situations. The main policy links to a dedicated rod warranty policy for the details. That coverage should not be extended to another fishing-rod brand or treated as three years of unconditional refunds.

For a claim, record the brand, model, purchase date and a clear description of the problem. Keep the product and any available packaging until the manufacturer or Scheels gives the next steps. A warranty can provide support for a defect, while an ordinary return addresses eligible merchandise within the store's purchase-date window; the remedies and decision-maker may differ.

13 / THE DETAILS

Should you keep the receipt for a Scheels bat or fishing-rod warranty claim?

Yes. Manufacturers often require proof of purchase. Use the brand’s warranty instructions and retain the receipt or order confirmation; a product failure does not automatically qualify for a store refund.

14 / THE DETAILS

What should you do if a Scheels order arrives damaged or defective?

Contact Scheels at the earliest opportunity. If an in-store purchase has a problem, the main policy tells you to bring it to your local Scheels. For an online damaged or defective shipment protected by Route, Scheels directs customers to file a claim with Route. Other online product problems should be photographed and sent to Scheels Customer Experience.

Its Help Center asks for clear photos of the product, tags or label showing model number and UPC, and the shipping box and packaging. Keep those materials while the issue is reviewed. For Route-covered damage, the Help Center states a 30-calendar-day reporting period from delivery; use the protection email to identify the covered order and claim route.

A damage report is not the same as selecting a change-of-mind reason in the return portal. Explain what arrived and what was wrong so support can determine the appropriate return, replacement or warranty process. Do not dispose of the evidence before obtaining instructions.

15 / THE DETAILS

How do same-day delivery and store-purchase mail returns work at Scheels?

Scheels' Help Center says products from same-day delivery orders follow the standard Scheels.com return policy, but the same-day delivery fee is nonrefundable. Identify the order and use the ordinary eligibility rules for the product; delivery speed does not remove the category exclusions or establish a different refund period.

If you bought the product in a store and want to mail it back, contact the store where it was purchased. Scheels tells customers to discuss mailing options with that location, whose associates can provide specific instructions. The online order portal should not be assumed to register a transaction that began at a store counter.

For online assistance, Scheels lists 701-670-8388 for calls and texts, plus chat through the Help Center. Have the order number or store receipt, purchase date and product description ready. For a missing credit, include the return tracking and processing record so the team can identify which stage needs attention.
