Brooks accepts eligible direct purchases within 9 0 days of purchase, including worn gear. Return shipping and restocking are free; original delivery fees are excluded. Use the original seller first for retailer purchases.
How to start a return
In a store
- For another retailer’s purchase, contact that retailer first.
- Keep the receipt and explain the product or fit issue.
- If the retailer cannot help, ask Brooks Runner Experience about options.
Online or by mail
- Start in the Returns Center with order number and email.
- Generate separate labels for each box and keep orders matched.
- Use FedEx or USPS, not UPS, and save tracking.
What is Brooks’ return policy and does the 90 days start at purchase?
Brooks’ U.S. policy gives you 90 days after purchase under its Run Happy Promise. For gear bought directly from brooksrunning.com, the stated outcome is a refund, with original shipping charges excluded. The clock does not restart when you take your first run or decide the shoes are not working for you.
Keep the confirmation that identifies the purchase date and order number. If several pairs arrived together, match the pair you want to return with the actual order before starting a request. The return portal needs the order information to generate the correct record and label.
Brooks’ policy is unusually useful for runners because it permits trying the gear in real conditions. That does not make a separate retailer’s checkout transaction identical to a Brooks website purchase. For shoes bought at a running store or another seller, contact that retailer first; Brooks offers support if it cannot help.
| Decision | Rule to check |
|---|---|
| Return window | 90 days after purchase |
| Shipping or fees | Free eligible return shipping; no restocking fee; original shipping nonrefundable |
| Main exceptions | Different seller purchases need that retailer first; trial is not a lifetime wear guarantee |
Can you return Brooks shoes after running outdoors or getting them dirty?
Yes. Brooks explicitly accepts worn gear within its 90-day purchase window, including equipment that has been run in, sweated in or gotten dirty. You do not have to keep a running shoe untouched merely to preserve the trial described by its U.S. policy.
Use that opportunity to assess the fit and performance that matter during your normal runs. A shoe that feels fine while standing indoors may feel different after sustained movement. Explain the return reason clearly in the portal rather than trying to describe a used pair as new.
The trial is different from a promise that shoes never wear out. Brooks separately describes normal performance-shoe life as roughly 300–500 miles, depending on conditions, and notes that use outside forward running can produce different wear. If a product seems defective, use the product-support route so the team can assess that issue instead of assuming every worn component means a defect.
How do you start a Brooks.com return?
Open Brooks’ Returns Center and enter the order number and checkout email under Start a Return. Select the item, choose the reason and repeat for any other merchandise you want to send back. For multiple quantities of the same product, adjust the quantity rather than assuming one selection covers every pair.
Review the return summary before generating the label. If you selected something you intend to keep, remove it using the portal’s Do Not Return option. Check that the items actually packed match the selection so the receiving team can connect the parcel with the request.
After submission, download the prepaid label and save the confirmation email. Brooks also lets account holders start through their account history. Guest orders can use the portal directly with their order number and email.
Are Brooks returns free, and is there a restocking charge?
The U.S. Returns Center advertises no return-shipping or restocking fee for eligible returns. Its detailed instructions nevertheless exclude shipping fees charged on the original order from the refund. Free return postage and a refund of outbound delivery are separate questions.
For illustration, if the merchandise cost $140 and original delivery cost $10, an approved merchandise return does not automatically restore the full $150. That example explains the exclusion; it is not a quote for your tax calculation or order.
Use the label issued by Brooks so the shipment follows its process. The company does not tell you to purchase unrelated postage and assume reimbursement. For another retailer’s purchase, check that seller’s instructions first. The Brooks website’s free-label statement does not establish every running store’s return-shipping terms.
Do you need the original Brooks box to return shoes?
No. Brooks says you can use another shipping box if the original packaging is gone. The replacement box should have no holes, and old labels need to be removed or covered before the new return label is attached.
Choose a carton that protects the shoes or apparel and closes securely. Keep unrelated personal items out of it, including anything stored temporarily inside a shoe box. A photograph or quick inventory before sealing can be useful when returning several products, but it does not replace the order-specific return label.
Brooks’ packaging flexibility is different from permission to send a parcel with someone else’s label. Generate the label from the order associated with the gear. If you bought two similar pairs on different dates, check which order contains the pair you are actually returning before preparing the package.
Can you use one Brooks label for multiple boxes or combine orders?
Each box needs its own return label. If items from one order will not fit into one carton, Brooks says to create separate returns: select only the items going in the first box, then repeat for the next box.
It also warns that mixing items from different orders under one label may delay processing. Keep merchandise, quantities and labels matched rather than treating your account as one combined purchase. When packing several boxes, put the corresponding label beside each carton before sealing it.
A duplicated label can make tracking and receipt harder to establish. Save the tracking details for each shipment, not just the first parcel. If you have already sent a mixed or mislabeled box, contact Brooks with the relevant order numbers and what was packed. Avoid creating additional unrelated labels as a substitute for explaining the shipment already in transit.
Should you take a Brooks return to FedEx, USPS or UPS?
Brooks’ instructions permit its prepaid label at FedEx or USPS and recommend FedEx where possible for the fastest service. The packaging FAQ specifically says UPS will not accept its prepaid labels.
Check the label before choosing a drop-off. A convenient shop handling parcels for one carrier does not necessarily accept every other carrier’s returns. Keep the acceptance receipt or other handover record so you can show when the parcel entered the network.
The carrier receiving the package is only one stage of the refund process. Brooks still needs to receive and process the return, then the payment provider posts the credit. If tracking has not moved, use the carrier record when asking for help rather than starting a second return for the same merchandise without explaining the first shipment.
Can USPS collect a Brooks return from your home?
Brooks provides a link to schedule USPS pickup when you cannot take the return to a drop-off location. Its pickup article describes the labels as SmartPost labels accepted through FedEx or USPS.
Prepare the parcel and attach the correct label before arranging collection. Follow the pickup service’s actual instructions about where and when to leave it. The return policy itself does not guarantee a particular collection time, and arranging a pickup is not the same as a carrier scan confirming acceptance.
If collection fails, check the pickup request and choose another permitted handover route while keeping the return moving. Retain the label and order details rather than replacing them with a label for a different purchase. When the parcel is accepted, keep the tracking record until the return and refund are complete.
How long is a Brooks label valid, and can you print it again?
Find the email titled You’ve started your return or use Track a Return in the Returns Center to download the label again. Brooks says the confirmation contains a printable PDF link; an account holder can also check return information through order history.
The published help pages give conflicting label lifetimes: the main return instructions say 90 days after initiation, while the label-recovery article says 30 days. Do not use the longer figure as an automatic extension of the separate 90-day purchase window. Send the parcel promptly and ask Brooks to confirm or refresh a label if its age is uncertain.
Reprinting the same valid label is different from putting copies on several boxes. Multiple cartons need distinct labels under Brooks’ packaging instructions. Check the tracking number and order association before reusing a saved PDF.
When does Brooks issue a refund, and where does it go?
The detailed online-return instructions say Brooks confirms the refund by email within two business days after receipt, followed by three to five business days for the banking system to credit the original payment method. Its tracking article gives a shorter bank-posting estimate of up to three business days, so use the broader guidance when planning.
The return has to arrive first. Creating a label, handing over the parcel and warehouse delivery are different stages. Check tracking to identify where the return is before counting the receiving and payment-processing estimates.
Keep the refund email and compare it with the original payment account. If Brooks has confirmed issuance but the money has not appeared after the applicable posting period, ask the payment provider about that credit. If there is no refund confirmation, ask Brooks whether the delivered parcel has been matched and processed.
Does Brooks offer direct online size exchanges?
Brooks recommends returning the original gear and placing a new order rather than waiting for a traditional online exchange. Create the return through its standard process and buy the size or model you want separately.
Check current availability and price before reordering. The new purchase may be charged before the original refund reaches your account, so plan for the temporary overlap. The exchange instructions do not promise to reserve stock or automatically carry an earlier promotion onto the new order.
A gift is handled differently through a reviewed gift-exchange request. Do not confuse that support option with an instant online exchange button for every normal order. If your reason is a product problem rather than fit preference, explain it to the support team so it can direct you to the correct process.
How can you exchange Brooks gear received as a gift?
Use Brooks’ Returns Information form, select Gift in the purchase-source field, and explain what you would like instead in the description. The Runner Experience team reviews the request; this is not a promise of an immediate cash refund to the recipient.
Gather the gift’s product details and any order or purchase information you have before submitting it. Describe the desired size or model accurately so the team can assess the request without guessing which replacement you mean. If the gift came from another retailer, include that detail too.
Wait for the provided instructions before sending the gear with an unrelated order’s label. The gift process is designed for a purchase you may not control in your own account. It should not require you to pretend to be the original buyer or create a return under a different transaction.
Can Brooks help with shoes bought at a running store or another retailer?
Contact the original retailer first for a return or exchange. Brooks says that if the retailer cannot help, you can call, email or chat with its team and it will work with you on possible options.
That is assistance, not a universal promise to refund another seller’s transaction on the Brooks website. Keep the receipt and explain where the shoes were purchased, when, and what is wrong with the fit or performance. The original retailer’s return process and payment records are distinct from Brooks’ own checkout system.
The published support number is 1-855-427-6657. Its retailer article also lists text support at 206-899-4101, with message and data rates potentially applying. Use the official support form or chat if you need to send product information, and follow the team’s instructions about any shipment.
How do Brooks refunds work for Afterpay and Klarna?
Brooks first processes the refund request and sends it to the installment provider, which then handles the credit. The help page allows up to ten business days for Afterpay and up to fourteen days for Klarna, depending on the payment situation and financial institution.
The original installment schedule continues until the return is confirmed and processed. Brooks describes provider-account options for reporting a return or adjusting an upcoming payment while it is registered. Check the provider’s account rather than simply stopping payments because a parcel has been mailed.
For a partial return, the provider may handle the remaining balance differently from a full return. Keep the Brooks refund confirmation so you can tell whether the delay is before Brooks’ approval or after transmission to the provider. If the stated provider period has passed, contact the appropriate installment service with that confirmation.
What if you sent the wrong item or need help with a product problem?
If an unrelated item was put into the return parcel, contact Brooks promptly with a description of it and the order number used to create the label. The team will try to recover it but does not guarantee success. Its help article warns that an item delivered more than 30 days earlier may already have been donated, recycled or otherwise disposed of.
For a product that seems defective, the Returns Center directs shoppers to its Product Support form. That route lets you describe the actual issue rather than assuming ordinary wear and a manufacturing problem are identical. Keep the gear while obtaining instructions.
You can also contact Runner Experience at 1-855-427-6657 or through official email-form and chat options. Have the purchase evidence, model and tracking ready. Clear information about whether the problem involves the product, parcel or payment helps identify the next step.
