Most saleable merchandise has 30 days from receipt with proof for an original-payment refund. Designer, pre-owned, furniture, mattress and rug purchases have special rules; online and regular-store purchases cannot go to an Outlet return counter.
How to start a return
In a store
- Check the product category, seller and permitted location.
- Bring saleable merchandise, original tags, packaging and purchase proof.
- Use a regular store; seller returns need onward shipping and Outlet cannot accept regular-store or online purchases.
Online or by mail
- Start the official online return process for the correct item and seller.
- If label-free UPS is offered, package items and take the parcel plus QR code to The UPS Store.
- Keep drop-off tracking; allow receiving, processing and bank-posting time.
What is Bloomingdale’s return policy and is it still 90 days?
The current general policy gives 30 days from receipt for most saleable merchandise, with proof of purchase and a refund to the original payment method. Do not rely on an older 90-day description when deciding what to do with a new purchase.
The general headline has substantial exceptions. Certain luxury and pre-owned purchases use 14 days, furniture has a three-day initiation requirement, and mattresses follow a separate reselection program. Identify the product category and seller before calculating the deadline.
For an online order, keep the delivery confirmation together with the receipt or order details. The date you first wear an item or give it as a gift does not start a new window. If your item has a shorter special deadline, act on that rule even if the general 30-day period would still be open. The retailer ultimately assesses whether the merchandise qualifies as saleable.
| Decision | Rule to check |
|---|---|
| Return window | 30 days standard; shorter category deadlines |
| Shipping or fees | Free eligible online returns; original shipping and handling nonrefundable; furniture has separate fees |
| Main exceptions | The Final Offer; customization; listed final-sale categories; opened sealed-only products |
Can you return worn clothing, missing tags or opened packaging to Bloomingdale’s?
The standard requires merchandise in the same condition as received: unused, unworn and undamaged, with original tags and packaging. A receipt and an unexpired deadline do not by themselves make used or incomplete merchandise eligible.
Try clothing on carefully before committing to wear it, keep identifying tags attached and retain the packaging while deciding. For designer items, accessories and jewelry, preserve the included paperwork and protective materials as well. Do not assume that reattaching a tag or repacking an item reverses use or alteration.
Some categories require unopened, sealed packaging rather than merely a tidy box. Others have special return destinations. If an item arrived damaged, photograph the actual condition and contact support with the order details before changing or discarding the packaging. Explain the delivery problem directly instead of treating it as a standard preference return.
Which Bloomingdale’s purchases are final sale?
The general policy excludes The Final Offer merchandise and altered, customized, monogrammed or personalized products from returns and exchanges. It also lists food and beverages, sexual wellness products and breast pumps as final sale.
There is an important published conflict for breast pumps: the separate third-party-seller policy allows a pump returned unopened in its original packaging, while the main policy lists pumps as final sale. If that is your purchase, identify the seller and obtain confirmation of the applicable terms before assuming it is eligible. Do not open the seal while resolving the question.
Check the order’s actual final-sale designation rather than treating every sale price as identical. An ordinary discount and The Final Offer are different labels. If something was shipped incorrectly or arrived damaged, contact customer care about that specific problem instead of mailing a final-sale item under the assumption that the warehouse will override the exclusion.
Which Bloomingdale’s baby products and appliances must stay sealed?
The main policy requires listed baby and child products to be unused, unopened and sealed in original packaging. These include strollers, car seats, highchairs, playpens, bouncers, changing tables, dressers, cribs and bassinets. Food processors and LYMA products carry the same sealed-condition requirement.
Check the product’s dimensions, specifications and suitability before opening it. The normal 30-day deadline is not a trial period for these categories. Keeping the box after breaking its seal is different from satisfying an unopened-and-sealed requirement.
For a registry gift, keep the purchase evidence available and discuss the return before unpacking or assembling it. If the box arrived damaged or a seal was already broken, document that condition and contact Bloomingdale’s promptly. Ask how the item should be handled rather than discarding protective materials or continuing assembly while waiting for a decision.
What are the CHANEL, Gucci, REBAG and other designer exceptions?
Special guidelines give CHANEL handbags, accessories, ready-to-wear and women’s shoes 14 days from in-store purchase, with markdowns nonreturnable. Gucci uses 30 days from in-store purchase or online delivery, and certain handbags, shoes and jewelry must return to the original purchase location.
myGemma and pre-owned fine jewelry use 14 days, measured from store purchase or online delivery as applicable. Online REBAG purchases should be sent directly to the seller within 14 days of delivery. In-store REBAG returns are limited to the designated Bloomingdale’s REBAG boutiques listed in the guidelines.
Saint Laurent also has specified boutique destinations for store purchases, and trunk-show purchases must go back to their original location within 14 days. Read the exact brand row before traveling. The brief general policy summarizes some luxury periods from purchase; the detailed guidelines distinguish delivery for the named online purchases.
How long do you have to return Bloomingdale’s furniture?
Furniture returns must be initiated within three days of delivery and may incur a 15% restocking fee. The item must be in original, new condition. Delivery fees are not refunded, while the furniture protection plan is refundable under the special guidelines.
Inspect furniture promptly when it arrives. Do not wait for the general 30-day merchandise deadline before reporting that it is unsuitable. For illustration, a 15% restocking charge on a $2,000 item would be $300; the actual charge and any other amounts depend on the purchase and approved return.
For delivery damage, contact the furniture team at 1-800-323-7857. Outdoor furniture delivered on or after June 27 is listed as nonreturnable, so check that restriction before relying on the three-day rule. Obtain collection and packing instructions from the team rather than arranging an unapproved shipment of bulky furniture.
Is Bloomingdale’s mattress policy a refund or a comfort exchange?
Bloomingdale’s describes a 365-day mattress reselection period, not a universal year-long cash-refund promise. Fees increase with the time since delivery: 15% of the original price in the first three months, 20% from three to six months, 30% from six to nine months and 50% from nine to twelve months.
The original delivery charge is nonrefundable, a new delivery fee applies, and the policy lists a $110 pickup fee except for a manufacturer’s defect. Ask for the complete transaction calculation before choosing a replacement.
For illustration, the percentage component alone would be $300 on a $2,000 mattress at 15%, before pickup, delivery or any replacement-price difference. That is a cost example, not a quote. The same guidelines warn that canceling, returning or exchanging special-order furniture forfeits the deposit. Keep the original invoice so the team can identify the product and relevant purchase terms.
What is the return policy for Bloomingdale’s area rugs?
Area rugs use a 14-day period after delivery and must remain in saleable, original condition. A rug bought in a store must be returned to that original purchase location under the special guidelines.
Plan a clean inspection before laying the rug into everyday use. Confirm the dimensions, color and placement while preserving its condition and packaging. Do not assume the normal clothing-return counter at a different branch is the correct destination for a store-bought rug.
If returning it requires special transport, contact the purchase location while the short window is still open. Ask how the rug should be wrapped, where it should be brought and whether the team needs to arrange the handling. The published deadline does not automatically extend while you look for transport. Keep the delivery and purchase records together so the applicable starting date can be checked without reconstructing it later.
Can you return a Bloomingdales.com order in a store or outlet?
Most eligible online merchandise can be taken to a regular Bloomingdale’s store within the applicable deadline. Purchases from Bloomingdales.com or a Bloomingdale’s store cannot be returned or exchanged at a Bloomingdale’s Outlet Store.
Bring the order confirmation or receipt and the merchandise with its tags and packaging. First check whether a designer category requires a particular original location or whether the item is a third-party sale. Those exceptions can change what a store associate is able to do.
A standard store refund is issued immediately when processed, with another 3–5 business days allowed for it to appear in the account depending on the bank. That is different from a seller return accepted at the bHelpful desk for onward shipping. In that case, visiting a store does not turn the seller’s refund into an immediate counter refund.
How do Bloomingdale’s mail and UPS label-free returns work?
Start through Bloomingdale’s online return tool and select the appropriate items and route. Its instructions advertise free returns for eligible online orders. If offered, choose Label-Free at The UPS Store during the return process to receive a unique QR code by email and on the confirmation page.
This option is label-free, not a promise of box-free service. Pack the merchandise, including the original packing slip if you have it, and bring the package and code to The UPS Store. The employee scans the code, completes the shipping step and provides a confirmation receipt.
Keep that receipt and the return email until the refund is resolved. Original shipping and handling charges are nonrefundable under the general instructions. For a third-party item, use the destination generated for its seller rather than combining it into an unrelated warehouse return. Match the parcel, return record and seller before handing it over.
Can you return Bloomingdale’s merchandise without a receipt?
The return-and-exchange FAQ says a store can issue merchandise credit for the lowest selling price in the preceding 180 days when purchase proof is missing. It requires your name, phone number and address. This is not a promise to recreate the original payment or price.
For illustration, if an item cost $120 when purchased but reached a $70 low during that period, the receiptless credit may reflect the lower amount. Those figures are an example, not a valuation for your purchase. Ask what the actual credit will be before completing the return.
Search your order history, confirmation and proof-of-purchase label first. The amount you recover may differ substantially from the current ticket price. The receiptless valuation period is also not a general 180-day return deadline: do not confuse the lookback used to calculate credit with the standard window for bringing merchandise back.
How do Bloomingdale’s gift and registry returns work?
Gift returns with an original receipt or proof-of-purchase label receive merchandise credit. Without that proof, the FAQ allows store credit at the lowest selling price in the last 180 days. A gift return therefore does not automatically send cash to the recipient.
For registry gifts, the purchase list can also serve as the relevant record. Bloomingdale’s recommends an appointment with the Registry Concierge to help with returns and exchanges. If the item is not on the list and there is no receipt, the same lowest-price credit approach applies.
Check product restrictions before unpacking a gift, especially sealed baby equipment or a rug with a shorter deadline. Registry status should not be treated as a universal exception to category rules. Bring the gift receipt or registry information and ask how any credit will be issued and redeemed before surrendering the item.
What happens to a free gift or promotional gift card when you return merchandise?
Return a gift with purchase alongside the qualifying merchandise. If you keep the gift, Bloomingdale’s may deduct its value from the refund or decline the return. Locate the promotional item before packing, even when the invoice shows it at no additional charge.
A promotional gift card has a separate adjustment. If your return takes the purchase below the earning threshold, the promotional card value and/or return value is reduced by the corresponding amount. Do not assume you can keep the full promotional benefit while reversing the qualifying spend.
If you bought the returned merchandise using a promotional gift card, that portion is refunded onto a gift card mailed to you. The payment-card share and promotional-card share need not come back in the same form. Keep the promotion terms and receipt so you can compare the actual refund breakdown with how the purchase was funded.
How do third-party seller returns and refunds differ?
Look for Sold and shipped by on the listing and order information. Most eligible seller returns use 30 days from receipt and must go directly back to that seller through the online return tool. The bHelpful desk can assist with shipping, but the seller receives and assesses the merchandise before refunding it.
The dedicated seller page estimates 3–10 business days after receipt; the special guidelines say 3–14 business days, while the general instructions contain another 5–10-day estimate. These are differing published estimates, not a single guaranteed date. Use the order’s seller details and ask support if the refund is delayed.
Seller merchandise is not eligible for exchanges or price adjustments. Pre-owned luxury has its own 14-day terms, and food, beverages and sexual wellness products are final sale. Preserve condition, tags and packaging, and check the seller-specific instructions rather than applying every main-store rule to a marketplace purchase.
How long does a Bloomingdale’s refund take by mail?
For a standard mailed return, Bloomingdale’s says most refunds are issued 5–10 days after the return facility receives the merchandise, followed by another 3–5 business days for the amount to appear in your account. The first estimate is stated as days; the banking stage is explicitly business days.
Carrier transit happens before those receiving and processing steps. Use tracking to find the delivery date rather than counting everything from the moment a label was created. Fine jewelry may need additional inspection and verification, extending the processing stage.
Keep the order number, return confirmation and carrier receipt if you need to follow up. Ask whether the refund has been issued before asking the bank to investigate an unposted credit. Third-party orders have separate seller timelines, and gift, promotional and receiptless returns can produce store value instead of a refund to the original payment card.
What happens to Loyallist points, rewards and purchased gift cards?
Points earned on a returned purchase are removed from the Loyallist balance. If there are not enough points to cover that adjustment, outstanding rewards can be reduced at 1 cent per two points; if rewards are also insufficient, the refund can be reduced at the same rate.
If you paid using a Loyallist Reward, that reward amount is reissued as a Reward usable the following day. It is different from the money portion refunded to an original payment method. Review the receipt’s funding breakdown before expecting the full merchandise price as a bank credit.
The FAQ also permits a purchased gift card with its full value still on it to be returned at a store, with credit to the buyer’s original payment method. That is a specific unused-card provision. Do not apply it to every promotional credit or assume a partly spent card qualifies.
Who should you contact about a difficult Bloomingdale’s return?
For ordinary customer-care questions, Bloomingdale’s lists 1-800-777-0000, official chat and [email protected]. Furniture and bedding use 1-800-323-7857, and registry support is available at 1-800-888-2933.
Give the team the order or receipt details, the delivery date, product category and seller. If a return is already traveling, include the return reference and tracking. Explain whether the problem is eligibility, the correct destination, a damaged delivery or a refund that has not posted.
Do not send bulky, restricted or disputed merchandise without instructions. A shorter designer deadline, three-day furniture requirement or seller-specific rule can determine the outcome even while the main 30-day window is open. If official pages conflict for your product, point out the specific difference and ask for confirmation tied to that order before breaking seals or arranging shipping.
