Lands’ End requires eligible direct-order returns to be received within 90 days of shipment, with proof of purchase. The standard U.S. label fee is $8.95; the live portal advertises a limited-time $6.95 boxless option. Eligible store returns avoid the shipping deduction, and qualifying merchandise-credit returns can waive it. Personalized and final-sale items are excluded; logo school uniforms have a 90-day merchandise-credit rule.
How to start a return
In a store
- Locate a Lands’ End store and bring eligible merchandise and shipment or store purchase proof.
- Tell the associate if returning a gift.
- Choose original-payment processing or available store merchandise credit and retain confirmation.
Online or by mail
- Use the official return portal with the order details.
- Choose the offered boxless QR or USPS-label route and confirm the fee and refund tender.
- Keep handover proof and allow time for the return to meet the received-within-90-days rule.
What is the Lands’ End return policy now?
For eligible direct orders, Lands’ End requires the return to be received within 90 days of the date the order shipped. Refunds normally go to the original payment method when available. Proof of purchase is required, and the policy says a return cannot be refunded if neither you nor Lands’ End can find it.
The deadline is only part of the decision. Personalized and final-sale products have exclusions, logo school uniforms have a merchandise-credit rule, and the way you send something back affects the amount you keep. A store return avoids a return shipping deduction; the normal U.S. label fee is $8.95.
The live return-start page also advertises a limited-time $6.95 boxless drop-off option, against its usual $8.95 price. Check the amount displayed for your order rather than treating that promotion as a permanent fee. Some qualifying returns can avoid the deduction by choosing merchandise credit.
| Purchase or option | Published rule | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Direct-order deadline | Received within 90 days of shipment | Proof of purchase required |
| U.S. label | $8.95 standard | Check order-specific waivers |
| Boxless offer | $6.95 for a limited time | Regularly $8.95; verify portal |
| Store return | No return shipping deduction | Original-payment refunds still need processing |
| Logo school uniform | 90 days from shipment | Merchandise credit |
| Personalization | Excluded | Hemming and school logos are treated separately |
| Oversized return | Minimum $25 | Can increase with size or weight |
Is it 90 days from purchase, delivery or shipment?
The current full policy uses the shipping date for direct orders and says eligible returns must be received within 90 days of it. It is therefore important to allow time for the journey back, rather than only opening a request on day 90.
For example, if an order takes a week to arrive, that week has already used part of its shipment-based period. The clock does not restart when you open the package or give it to someone as a gift. Keep the shipment notification so you can check the correct starting date.
The policy separately addresses retail-store merchandise and its condition requirements. Keep the store receipt and confirm the deadline shown for that transaction; do not invent a shipping date for something you carried out of a store. If a direct order is close to its deadline, ask Customer Care which available route will meet the requirement before sending it.
Can you return something after 90 days?
The current policy says no returns are accepted after 90 days from shipment. It also warns that items sent outside the policy are not refundable and will not be returned to the sender. That makes sending an older item speculatively a poor gamble.
Do not rely on memories of a much older Lands’ End guarantee, a forum story or another shopper’s exception. The rule published for a current order is the one to check. If the issue is damage, a shipping error or another unusual problem, explain it to Customer Care before taking action; do not assume the public policy grants an automatic late-return exception.
Keep any written instructions for the particular case. A support conversation can establish what the team wants you to do, while a label generated for an eligible recent order does not authorize you to add an unrelated older item. Send only the merchandise covered by the return arrangement.
What counts as proof of purchase?
For a direct Lands’ End order, the shipment notification email or the online or phone order number can serve as proof. For a retail-store purchase, Lands’ End identifies a store receipt or gift receipt. A shipment email from a different retailer is not proof of a direct Lands’ End transaction.
Search the email account used for the purchase before contacting support. If you cannot find the order number, Customer Care may be able to help locate the purchase. The important distinction is that the order must actually be found; the policy does not promise a refund when there is no record.
Have the buyer’s name and the information associated with the order ready for the official support team. A card statement may help narrow down the date, but do not assume that a bank charge alone supplies the item-level evidence needed. Recover the purchase record before spending money to send a package.
Are Lands’ End returns free?
They can be. Returning an eligible purchase to a Lands’ End store avoids the return shipping fee. For qualifying portal returns, choosing merchandise credit can also waive the deduction. If you want the money back to the original payment method, the standard U.S. return-label charge is $8.95.
The current return-start page advertises boxless drop-off for $6.95 for a limited time, regularly $8.95. The detailed help policy still lists the normal $8.95 deduction. Treat the lower price as a promotion and confirm what your return summary offers before submitting it.
Here is an illustration: a $60 merchandise refund would be $51.05 after an $8.95 deduction, or $53.05 after a qualifying $6.95 promotional deduction, before tax or other adjustments. Merchandise credit may preserve more store spending power, but it ties the refund to future shopping. Choose the outcome you actually want, rather than accepting credit solely because the return is described as free.
How does boxless drop-off work?
Start with the official Lands’ End return page and enter the order information requested. Choose Box Free Drop Off if it is offered for the items in your return. The process supplies a QR code and shows available locations near the shipping address.
Bring the selected items and the QR code to the selected location. The policy describes this route as requiring no box or bag. Save the confirmation when the items are accepted; that is the handover record for the return you started.
Lands’ End says the refund is initiated at drop-off and is typically received within one to two business days for this route. That is an estimate, so retain the confirmation until your refund arrives. Check the fee and refund tender before completing the request. Do not choose a drop-off location simply because it handles some other retailer’s returns; use the options supplied for your Lands’ End order.
How do you send a Lands’ End return by mail?
Use the online return portal, choose the print-label and USPS shipping option, and follow the instructions for the selected merchandise. You need the order number and email address to start. Print the supplied label, pack the return securely and give it to USPS as directed.
The normal $8.95 U.S. label fee is deducted from the refund unless the return qualifies for a waiver, such as the applicable merchandise-credit option. A label called prepaid means you do not pay the carrier at drop-off; it does not necessarily mean no fee will come out of the refund.
Keep the acceptance receipt and tracking number. The full policy requires eligible returns to be received within 90 days of shipment, so leave room for transit. Use a box that protects the contents and remove or cover old shipping labels. Keep return paperwork matched to the items inside so the warehouse can identify what it is receiving.
Can you use your own shipping service?
Yes. Lands’ End publishes an independent-shipping route. Pack the return securely and include the order number, your name, shipping address, phone number, the items being returned and the reason for the return.
The published destination is Lands’ End Returns, 2 Lands’ End Lane, Dodgeville, WI 53595, USA. Pay your chosen carrier directly. Lands’ End says those return shipping costs are not refundable, so compare the actual carrier quote with the portal fee before deciding that arranging your own postage is cheaper.
Use tracking and keep the receipt until the refund is complete. This option changes how the parcel gets there; it does not extend eligibility, remove a final-sale exclusion or waive proof requirements. For oversized merchandise, contact Customer Care first because its return charge and handling may be different. A standard clothing parcel and a large home item should not be budgeted as the same return.
Can you return an online order to a Lands’ End store?
Yes. The current store-return instructions allow eligible direct purchases to be brought to a Lands’ End store without a return shipping deduction. Bring the shipment notification containing the order number and purchase details, and tell the associate if the item is a gift.
The store can process an eligible original-payment refund or an immediate store merchandise credit. An original-payment refund is not necessarily visible in your account while you are still at the counter. Lands’ End describes three to five business days to process that request and another three to five business days for the financial institution to credit it.
If a store cannot process the return, the instructions say it can send the merchandise back to Lands’ End free of charge for processing. Find an actual Lands’ End location through the official locator. A separate retailer selling Lands’ End products is not automatically a participating return counter for a direct order.
Can you return worn, washed or outlet merchandise?
For Lands’ End retail-store merchandise, the policy specifically requires items to be sellable, smoke-free, unwashed and unworn. Last Chance, final-sale and Lands’ End Outlet items cannot be returned or exchanged under that section.
Check an item’s label and receipt before washing or using it. The 90-day wording is not a general invitation to wear clothing for a season and then send it back. Keep the product in the condition expected for your purchase route while deciding about size, color and fit.
If an item arrived faulty or different from what you ordered, contact Customer Care with the actual problem before returning it. Explain whether it was already like that on arrival and preserve relevant photos. Do not silently treat a problem item as an ordinary used return, or assume that every fault claim overrides every exclusion without the retailer reviewing the case.
Are monogrammed items and school uniforms returnable?
Personalized merchandise is excluded from the ordinary return policy. Lands’ End includes monogramming, embroidery, engraving and laser imprints in that definition. Ordering the wrong initials is therefore a different situation from returning a plain item that did not fit.
Two important distinctions prevent the rule from being too broad. Hemming and school-uniform logos are not included in the policy’s definition of personalization. A school-uniform item without a logo follows the general policy. A school-uniform item with a logo can be returned within 90 days of shipment for merchandise credit.
For example, do not assume a logo uniform automatically qualifies for an original-card refund simply because a plain version would. Conversely, do not reject the possibility of a hemmed-item return solely because it was altered by the ordering service. Check the actual product and its other conditions, including any final-sale designation, before deciding which rule applies.
How do you return a gift without refunding the giver by mistake?
If Lands’ End shipped the gift directly to you, its policy allows a portal return for merchandise credit. You need the order number and shipping ZIP code, and you should enter your own email address where the merchandise-credit email is requested.
If the gift was not shipped directly to you by Lands’ End, contact Customer Care instead of using the ordinary portal. The policy warns that using the wrong process can send the refund back to the purchaser. Contact the team as well if you cannot receive merchandise credit by email or need help finding the purchase.
Gift status does not remove the need for purchase proof or extend the shipment-based deadline. Keep the gift receipt or available order information with the item. For an in-store return, say that it is a gift before the associate selects the refund method, so the transaction is handled for the intended recipient.
Can you exchange for another size or color?
Lands’ End describes exchanges as a return and a new order. A credit is processed for the returned item, and the replacement is a separate purchase. You do not reserve stock by placing a note asking for another size inside a return parcel.
For the same item in another size or color, the policy directs you to call Customer Care to place the reorder with free standard shipping. Ask the specialist about current availability and pricing before completing it. Free outbound shipping on the replacement does not automatically remove the return processing deduction on the original.
If you need the replacement quickly, consider the temporary effect of paying for a new order while the first refund is still processing. A different size may sell out while you wait, but buying again creates a separate charge. Get the price and delivery details clear rather than assuming every previous coupon or promotion will carry over.
What special rules apply to oversized or other-brand items?
Oversized returns have a minimum $25 return fee, and the fee can be higher depending on size and weight. Do not use the ordinary $8.95 clothing-label amount as the entire cost estimate for a large item.
Lands’ End also says not every non-Lands’ End branded product can be returned to it. Eligible other-brand returns still need to be received within 90 days of shipment. Check the product’s selling and return details before arranging transport, particularly if it came from a partner or another retailer.
Ask Customer Care for the return route and expected deduction for the specific item. A convenient portal link does not settle whether a bulky product needs different handling. Keep the answer with your order records so you can compare the actual credit with the quoted fees later. Avoid paying a carrier for a large return until eligibility and destination are clear.
How do you check a missing Lands’ End refund?
Identify how the item was returned first. Boxless drop-off has a published one-to-two-business-day typical refund estimate after initiation at handover. A store-processed original-payment refund has the separate processing and bank-posting stages explained above. A mailed return has a transport stage as well.
Check the return confirmation, tracking and payment statement before contacting the team. Ask whether the return has been received, whether a credit was approved and which tender received it. If you selected merchandise credit, look for the credit email rather than waiting only for money in the original card account.
Lands’ End publishes 1-800-963-4816 for Customer Care and provides official chat and contact options. Have the order number, items, return reference and tracking ready. The original delivery charge is not refunded under the ordinary policy, so distinguish that retained charge from an unexplained return deduction when reviewing the final amount.
