Journeys Return Policy: New 60-Day Window, Older 365-Day Orders and Mail Fees

Bought before April 1, 2026? Your deadline may differ. Find the current return window, new-condition requirements, free store route and $7.99 label fee.

By October 15, 2026

The short answer

Journeys gives purchases made on or after April 1, 2026 a 60-day return or exchange window from purchase. Earlier orders may retain the former 365-day period. Items need to be new, in original packaging and supported by valid proof. Eligible store returns and exchanges are free; the standard online prepaid label has a $7.99 deduction. Original shipping is nonrefundable.

How to start a return

In a store

  1. Bring new-condition merchandise, original packaging and valid proof to any Journeys store.
  2. Check whether the purchase falls before April 1, 2026 or on/after that date.
  3. Ask for the eligible refund or exchange; the store route is free.

Online or by mail

  1. For an online purchase, use the return/exchange service linked from Journeys’ policy.
  2. Review the $7.99 prepaid-label deduction; older orders needing labels should contact Customer Service.
  3. For a store purchase sent independently, use the Return/Exchange Form and the published address; retain tracking.

01 / THE DETAILS

What is Journeys’ return policy now?

For purchases made on or after April 1, 2026, Journeys allows returns and exchanges within 60 days of purchase. The merchandise must be in new condition, in its original packaging and accompanied by valid proof of purchase.

There is a separate rule for older orders: purchases made before April 1, 2026 can still use the policy in effect when bought, including the 365-day period, provided the other requirements are met. That cutoff is why you may see two different deadlines quoted online.

The cheapest ordinary route is a Journeys store, where eligible returns and exchanges are free. Online purchases can use the linked return service, with a $7.99 deduction for the prepaid label. Original shipping charges are nonrefundable. Check the purchase date first, then choose the route that fits the order and the outcome you want.

02 / THE DETAILS

Is Journeys’ return window 60 days or 365 days?

Both numbers appear in the current policy, but they apply to different purchase dates. Orders placed before April 1, 2026 retain the earlier 365-day option. Orders placed on or after that date have 60 days from purchase.

A March 31 purchase and an April 1 purchase therefore do not have the same deadline. The date the rule changed matters more than whether a search result still describes Journeys as offering year-long returns.

The older period is not a general extension for purchases made today. It is protection for the earlier transactions identified by the policy. Find the original order confirmation and count from that purchase, rather than from the date a gift was opened or the shoes were first worn. Condition and packaging remain part of either route. An older eligible purchase may have more time, but it still needs to meet the original requirements.

03 / THE DETAILS

Can you return shoes after wearing them?

Ordinary Journeys returns require merchandise in new condition. The 60-day window is time to make the decision, rather than permission to wear a pair for two months and return it afterward.

Assess the fit while preserving the shoes' condition and original packaging. Once they have been used regularly, a simple preference return may no longer meet the stated rule. The relevant question is the condition of the actual pair, not just how many days remain.

A suspected manufacturing defect has a separate provision: Journeys guarantees products against manufacturer defects within 30 days of purchase, with proof and original packaging. It decides whether the product is defective and whether replacement or refund is necessary. Describe a fault directly to support instead of trying to fit a worn pair into the new-condition route. That helps the team assess the actual problem under the appropriate rule.

04 / THE DETAILS

Do you need the original shoebox and packaging?

Yes, original packaging is part of Journeys' published return and exchange requirements. Keep the shoebox and included packaging while deciding whether the purchase is right for you.

For a mailed return, an outer shipping carton can help protect the retail packaging. Cover old shipping labels on the outer parcel so it is routed using the new return information. Those are practical packing steps that help preserve what the policy asks you to send back.

If the original packaging arrived damaged or something was missing, describe that to Customer Service before mailing. It gives the representative the arrival context instead of leaving the warehouse to interpret an incomplete package. A spare box may protect the shoes during transit, but it is not automatically a substitute for the original product packaging. If that packaging is gone, get an answer about the particular purchase before paying to send it.

05 / THE DETAILS

Can you return a Journeys order without a paper receipt?

An order confirmation email can serve as proof of purchase. Journeys says it no longer includes physical receipts or invoices in the box for online or in-store orders as part of its paper-reduction approach.

That means an empty receipt envelope or missing packing invoice does not necessarily leave you without evidence. Search the email address used for the transaction and bring the matching confirmation when returning in a store. It should identify the order you are actually asking the associate to handle.

If the confirmation is missing or the store has difficulty using it, Customer Service can help investigate. This is different from a guaranteed refund for a purchase with no valid proof at all: the policy still requires proof. The current receipt-help article specifically directs customers having problems with the lack of a physical receipt or invoice to support. Start there before accepting that a missing paper slip prevents every option.

06 / THE DETAILS

Can an online Journeys purchase be returned to a store?

Journeys invites eligible returns and exchanges at any Journeys store for free. Bring the merchandise in original packaging and valid proof, such as the order confirmation email.

This is often the most convenient route when you live near a store. It avoids the standard $7.99 prepaid-label deduction for the ordinary online mail route and lets you discuss a replacement in person. Use the store locator to choose a location and check its hours.

The purchase date still determines whether the 60-day rule or the older 365-day rule applies. If you are bringing more than one order, have the corresponding confirmations available so each item can be matched correctly. Before leaving, check the recorded return or exchange and any amount involved. Store convenience changes the handling and shipping cost; it does not remove the new-condition, packaging or proof requirements.

07 / THE DETAILS

How do you return or exchange a Journeys online order by mail?

Use the return or exchange service linked from Journeys' current policy page. For eligible online purchases, the prepaid-label option has a $7.99 fee deducted from the refund, and Journeys asks for two to four weeks for processing.

Follow the service's order-lookup prompts and select the items and reason. Match the parcel contents to the request, keeping the merchandise in new condition and including its original packaging. Retain the drop-off receipt so you can follow the shipment to the return facility.

Orders placed before April 1, 2026 have a specific label instruction: contact Customer Service if you need a return-shipping label. The newer self-service route should not be assumed to handle every older order in exactly the same way. If the linked service will not identify a qualifying purchase, give support the confirmation rather than creating a request for a different order to obtain a label.

08 / THE DETAILS

How much does a Journeys mail return cost?

The standard prepaid label for an eligible online return has a $7.99 deduction. Original shipping charges are nonrefundable. A return at a Journeys store is free under the published store route.

As an illustration, a $60 merchandise refund less a $7.99 label fee leaves $52.01 before tax or other applicable adjustments. If you paid an original delivery charge, that is a separate cost you do not automatically recover. The illustration shows why a nearby store can be the more economical choice.

For a store-bought item you choose to ship yourself, you pay your selected carrier. Customer Service can help create a label if needed, but the policy does not promise a universal free-label benefit for every purchase channel. For a suspected defect, explain the issue before selecting a routine return method so support can identify the appropriate handling for that claim.

09 / THE DETAILS

Can you mail back something bought in a Journeys store?

Yes. A store purchase can go back free at a Journeys store, or you can complete the Return/Exchange Form and ship it using your chosen carrier. The published destination is:

Journeys Order Returns 635 Genesco Parkway Lebanon, TN 37090

Use the form linked from the current help article and include the information needed to match the purchase. Journeys recommends a trackable shipping method when arranging the shipment yourself. If you need a label, its policy says Customer Service can help create one.

Consider the cost before choosing mail for a relatively inexpensive item. The store route is expressly free; independent shipping costs depend on the service you buy. A carrier receipt and tracking number are especially useful for a self-arranged parcel because they establish that it was sent and whether it reached the named return destination.

10 / THE DETAILS

What should you do with an older purchase that needs a label?

For an order placed before April 1, 2026, contact Customer Service if you need a return-shipping label. Journeys includes that instruction alongside its explanation of the earlier 365-day policy.

Give the representative the original purchase date and confirmation. That lets the team identify the transaction as an older order instead of evaluating it only against the current 60-day window. You still need to satisfy the condition, packaging and proof requirements.

A useful starting question is, “This order was placed before April 1; can you confirm its deadline and help with the label?” It identifies the exception without asking the representative to guess why the online flow may not suit the order. If a store is convenient, the policy also offers free eligible returns and exchanges there. Compare the available methods once support confirms the handling, especially if mailing would reduce a small refund substantially.

11 / THE DETAILS

How long does a Journeys refund take?

Journeys asks customers using the online return or exchange process to allow two to four weeks for processing. That is the published expectation, rather than a promise of an instant refund after handing the parcel to the carrier.

Use your shipment tracking to identify where the return is. A parcel still traveling and one delivered to the return facility are different situations. If you are asking about a delay, the order confirmation, return request and delivery record provide a clear timeline.

The return instructions do not give one separate bank-posting timetable for every payment method. Check the actual refund confirmation for how the reimbursement is being issued and ask support about the payment used on your order. The standard label deduction and nonrefundable original shipping can also explain a lower amount. Separate a question about the calculation from a question about whether processing has happened yet.

12 / THE DETAILS

How does Journeys handle defective shoes?

Journeys guarantees products against manufacturer defects within 30 days of purchase. It reserves the decision on whether an item is defective and whether replacement or refund is necessary.

The defect article requires the original receipt, online receipt or other valid proof, together with original packaging. Contact Customer Service if you believe the item has a manufacturing fault. Describe what failed, when you noticed it and how the product was used so the representative can understand the issue.

This provision is distinct from the ordinary new-condition return period. A 60-day purchase window does not turn the stated manufacturing-defect guarantee into 60 days, and the older 365-day purchase rule does not create a year-long promise for every fault. A broken component and normal wear can need different assessments. The clearest request gives the symptoms and purchase date instead of treating every uncomfortable or worn pair as automatically defective.

13 / THE DETAILS

Is an exchange different from returning for a refund?

Journeys offers both eligible returns and exchanges, with free handling at a Journeys store. An exchange can be useful when you like the style but need a different size or another product.

Bring the item in new condition with original packaging and proof. The store can help you see what replacement is available and explain any price difference. Availability is something to establish for the actual visit, rather than assuming a particular size will be waiting.

Online orders also have a linked return or exchange service. Its standard prepaid-label arrangement includes the stated $7.99 deduction, so inspect the options for your request before sending the original. Rewards points can change with an exchange too: Journeys says it adjusts them according to the replacement's price. The new purchase value and the physical exchange are connected, but they are separate details to review when the transaction is finished.

14 / THE DETAILS

What happens to Journeys All Access points after a return?

Points earned on a purchase are automatically deducted when that item is returned for a full refund. Journeys also says purchase points are not awarded until the order has shipped in full.

For an exchange, points are adjusted using the new item's price. A less expensive replacement may reduce the points, while a more expensive one may earn additional points. That makes the rewards entry part of the transaction to review, especially when several items were bought together.

For example, exchanging for a cheaper product can change both the money calculation and the points balance. The program's article describes the direction of the adjustment; it does not establish one universal points amount for every exchange. Look at the order and account activity together if something seems off. A merchandise refund does not mean keeping all the rewards originally tied to the purchase that was reversed.

15 / THE DETAILS

What should you do when returning shoes received as a gift?

Start by obtaining valid proof of the Journeys purchase. An order confirmation email is accepted for store returns, so asking the purchaser to share the relevant confirmation can be more useful than searching for a paper invoice that was never included.

The shoes still need to be in new condition and original packaging. The underlying purchase date determines which return period applies. The date you opened the gift does not establish a newly purchased order or the April 1 policy category.

If you want a size exchange, explain that at the store or to Customer Service. If you need a refund, ask how that gift transaction will be handled before assuming the recipient receives cash or a new gift card. The general published instructions confirm the proof and return requirements, but they do not promise one recipient-specific payout for every gift. Support can identify the available outcome from the actual purchase record.

16 / THE DETAILS

How can you contact Journeys about a return?

Call or text 1-888-324-6356, or use the chat and contact options on Journeys' help page. The published service hours are Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–8 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m., labeled CST on that page.

For an older order, mention the purchase date immediately. For a defective pair, identify the fault and when it appeared. For a missing paper invoice, explain which confirmation email or purchase record you have. Those details connect the question to the correct policy provision.

Before paying to mail a purchase, compare the available store route and label arrangement. The main choice is often simple: a free eligible store return or a parcel with a shipping cost. The original order and requested outcome give Customer Service what it needs to help you make that choice.
