The short answer

Converse’s current U.S. help policy gives eligible standard purchases a 30-day return period, with free online returns in the continental U.S. Converse By You custom orders cannot be returned or exchanged; flaws use the warranty route. Direct online orders can also go to U.S. Converse stores, but payment-method refund rules differ.

How to start a return

In a store

  1. Use a U.S. Converse retail store for an eligible direct order.
  2. Bring the order information or store receipt and the complete purchase.
  3. Confirm the refund tender first, especially for PayPal or Klarna.

Find a Converse store

Online or by mail

  1. Open Start a Return, or use My Account and My Orders for a member purchase.
  2. Generate the order-specific label and follow the UPS packing and label instructions.
  3. Keep the drop-off receipt and processing confirmation; custom orders are excluded.

01 / THE DETAILS

What is the Converse return policy?

Converse’s current U.S. help page gives eligible purchases a 30-day return period, whether returned to Converse.com or a Converse store. Online returns are free within the continental United States. The major exception is custom footwear: Converse By You orders cannot be returned or exchanged under the current policy.

For a standard Converse.com order, the sale terms measure the ordinary 30-day window from delivery. Start with the date the order reached you and keep the order confirmation handy. If the sneakers were bought at another retailer, that seller handles the ordinary return.

The practical choice is usually between downloading a free return label and visiting a U.S. Converse store. Both are available for eligible direct online orders, but your payment method can change how a store refund is issued. Check that detail before making the trip, particularly if you paid with PayPal or Klarna.

Does Converse let you return worn shoes?

For eligible standard purchases, Converse’s U.S. sale terms describe returns for any reason during the first 30 days from delivery. That is more flexible than a policy that requires every pair to remain unworn from day one.

There are limits to how far you should take that wording. The current help page specifically excludes Converse By You custom orders from returns and exchanges. Do not treat the general 30-day language as a way around that exclusion, and do not confuse a manufacturing problem with ordinary wear or damage.

If a regular pair feels wrong after you have worn it, begin the return within the ordinary window and describe its condition honestly. Keep the pair together and include the information needed to identify the order. If there is a material or workmanship flaw, tell Customer Service what failed rather than selecting a fit-related reason that does not explain the problem.

03 / THE DETAILS

Can you return Converse after 30 days?

Do not plan on an automatic extension. The current return help page presents a 30-day period for both online and store returns. Converse’s sale terms separately say that merchandise returned after 30 days must be unused, unworn, unwashed and untreated to receive a refund or exchange.

Because those pages do not describe the same late-return detail, contact Customer Service before sending an older order. Give the delivery date, explain the condition and ask whether that specific purchase can still be accepted. The sale terms’ condition statement is not a published unlimited return window.

If the issue is a defect rather than a late change of mind, use the warranty route. Converse directs shoppers with flawed products beyond the ordinary period toward a claim assessment. A defect claim and a discretionary late return are different requests; explain which one you need so you are not sent through the wrong process.

04 / THE DETAILS

Can you return or exchange Converse By You custom shoes?

No ordinary returns or exchanges are offered for Converse By You orders under the current U.S. help pages. Converse says those orders are made specifically for the shopper. The exclusion applies to exchanges as well as refunds, so the wrong size is not automatically fixed by asking for a swap instead.

Before placing a custom order, be confident about the model and fit. A size that works in one sneaker style is not a promise about another. Review the product’s sizing guidance and all customization choices before checkout rather than relying on the return policy as a backup.

A custom shoe with a material or workmanship flaw is a separate matter. Converse’s policy directs defective or flawed custom products to the warranty process. Photograph the problem and retain the order details. That route allows Converse to assess a genuine defect; it does not turn a preference or sizing issue into a returnable custom order.

05 / THE DETAILS

Are Converse online returns free?

Yes, Converse.com offers free returns within the continental U.S. for eligible purchases. Use the label generated through Converse’s own return process. You can also return an eligible direct order to a U.S. Converse retail store without a shipping label.

Do not buy postage first and assume Converse will reimburse an independently arranged shipment. The advertised free route is the one the company supplies. If the portal cannot produce a label for your order or location, ask Customer Service how to proceed before paying a carrier.

There is no need to join a separate paid service to use the published return option. Members can find return information in their account, while the Start a Return service lets shoppers look up an order. The free-return statement has a continental-U.S. limit, so shoppers outside that area should confirm their own logistics rather than borrowing instructions from a European, Canadian or Australian Converse page.

06 / THE DETAILS

How do you get a Converse return label?

Use Start a Return on Converse’s site. It opens the official Narvar service, where you can look up your order and generate the return label. Converse members can also go to My Account, open My Orders and begin the return there.

Do not worry if there was no prepaid label inside the delivery box. Converse’s current instructions say labels stopped being included with orders on March 1, 2023. The absence of a paper label does not mean an eligible order has lost its free-return option.

If you already generated a label and need it again, use Start a Return to retrieve it, or return to the order in your account. Check that the label belongs to the item and order you are sending. If the portal rejects an otherwise eligible purchase, contact Customer Service rather than choosing an unrelated order just to get a working barcode.

07 / THE DETAILS

How do you pack and ship a Converse return?

After generating the official label, place the items in their shipping box. Attach the label to the outside or follow Converse’s instruction to show the return label at a UPS location. Drop the box at UPS and keep the acceptance receipt.

Keep the shoes protected and together. If you still have the product box and packing materials, use them inside the shipping carton so the item is easy to identify and less likely to be damaged in transit. Remove or cover an old outward-facing shipping barcode if it could confuse the carrier.

The acceptance record matters if tracking stops moving or a refund is delayed. Save the label or tracking number somewhere you can find it without reopening the entire order. Once the parcel is delivered, look for Converse’s processing confirmation. A carrier scan and a completed refund are different stages, so keep the paperwork until both have been resolved.

08 / THE DETAILS

Can you return a Converse.com order to a store?

Yes. Converse’s official instructions allow eligible Converse.com orders to be returned to a U.S. Converse retail store free of charge, with no return label required. Use the company’s store locator to find a location rather than taking the shoes to an independent retailer that sells Converse.

Bring the order information and the complete purchase. If you bought in a Converse store, the sale terms tell you to bring the products back with the receipt for a refund to the original payment method.

Before choosing a store for an online order, check the payment section below. A major card payment, gift card, PayPal order and Klarna order do not all have the same store-refund treatment. If you specifically need the refund returned through your original online payment provider, mailing the eligible order may be the more suitable route. Ask the store about an unusual transaction before travelling.

09 / THE DETAILS

Can you return Converse without a receipt?

For an online order, start by finding your order information. You can obtain a return label through Start a Return or your member account, so losing a printed packing slip does not necessarily leave you without a way to identify the transaction.

For a purchase made at a Converse retail store, the U.S. sale terms say to bring the receipt. The current help pages do not promise every shopper a cash refund or a standard store-credit amount when a receipt is missing. Contact the selling store or Customer Service to ask what purchase details they can use.

Search for the confirmation email and check which seller charged you before you go. A Converse logo on the shoe does not prove Converse itself took the payment. If a department store, footwear chain or marketplace seller sold the pair, its receipt and return rules are the starting point for an ordinary return.

10 / THE DETAILS

How do Converse exchanges work?

For an eligible standard order, Converse tells shoppers who want a different size or color to call Customer Service. You can also take the direct online order to a Converse store for an in-store exchange.

Tell the team exactly which model, size and color you need. An exchange depends on the item you want being available, so do not assume a return parcel automatically holds a replacement. Keep the original order details available so the team can see the purchase price and any promotion that applied.

The custom-order exclusion still matters here: Converse By You is ineligible for exchanges under the current help pages. Calling a size change an exchange does not remove that restriction.

If you need a different product rather than the same style in another size or color, ask how the transaction will be handled. A refund followed by a new order can create a separate charge and a gap before the original money comes back.

11 / THE DETAILS

How long does a Converse refund take?

Converse’s return instructions describe processing within two business days after the return reaches its team. The U.S. sale terms describe a refund to the original payment method within two business days after receipt and processing, with up to ten additional business days for the payment method to reflect it.

That means the clock is not simply two days from the moment you hand a box to UPS. Transit comes first, then Converse’s processing, followed by your payment provider’s posting time. Weekends and bank holidays can affect a business-day estimate.

Keep the confirmation email and compare it with the account that originally paid for the order. If the expected time has passed, give Customer Service the order number, tracking number and the date of its refund confirmation. Ask whether the refund has been issued before chasing your bank for a payment that is still awaiting retailer processing.

12 / THE DETAILS

Where does the refund go for PayPal, Klarna or gift-card purchases?

For a mailed Converse.com return, PayPal payments are refunded to PayPal and Klarna payments to Klarna under the current return instructions. Major credit or debit card purchases go back to the same card. A Converse gift-card payment is refunded to a new Converse digital gift card.

Store returns can work differently. The help page says PayPal and Klarna orders returned in a store may be refunded to a physical gift card or major credit card. If keeping the refund with the original payment provider matters to you, choose the online return route and confirm the order’s instructions.

A merchandise refund also does not mean an installment account has instantly updated. Watch the refund status with the provider that handled the purchase and ask it about any remaining scheduled payments. Avoid treating the store receipt alone as confirmation that an external payment arrangement has already been adjusted.

13 / THE DETAILS

How do you return Converse received as a gift?

Converse’s online instructions direct gift returns or exchanges through the person who paid for the gift. If you want to handle the return or exchange yourself, the help page says you can bring the product to a Converse retail store.

Ask the giver for the order information or gift paperwork if that is possible. You need enough information for the team to identify the purchase and determine the available refund or exchange. A gift does not automatically create a cash refund to the recipient.

Before travelling, contact the store if you have no paperwork or the gift is close to the deadline. Also check whether the pair is Converse By You: custom orders remain excluded from ordinary returns and exchanges even when someone else chose the design for you. If the gift has an actual flaw, explain the defect and ask about the appropriate warranty route.

14 / THE DETAILS

What if your Converse sneakers are defective?

For a flawed product purchased within the ordinary 30-day period, Converse’s help page tells you to contact Customer Service by phone or chat. For a purchase more than 30 days old, use its warranty help page to find the claim route.

The warranty page is organized by purchase source: Converse.com, custom shoes, a Converse store or an authorized retailer. For a store purchase, begin with the store. For a pair bought from another authorized retailer, begin with the original seller; the page also describes a claim option if you cannot return there.

Take clear photos of the material or workmanship problem and keep your proof of purchase. Describe when it appeared and how the shoes were used. Converse does not describe every worn-out pair as a manufacturing defect. A warranty review gives the company a way to assess the issue, and should not be presented as a guaranteed refund or an unlimited replacement promise.

15 / THE DETAILS

Can you cancel a Converse order before it ships?

Check the order status promptly. Converse’s U.S. sale terms say an order marked Pending or On Hold may be eligible for a cancellation request through Customer Service. The team asks the warehouse to cancel; success is not guaranteed.

Look for the confirmation if the cancellation succeeds. If it does not, the order may ship as scheduled. Do not assume that sending a message or closing your browser stops fulfilment.

For a standard eligible order, you can then follow the ordinary return process after delivery. For a Converse By You order, be especially careful: the current help policy excludes ordinary custom returns and exchanges, so the sale terms’ broad return wording should not be treated as a fallback for a custom purchase. Ask Customer Service about the particular order immediately if you notice a customization error, rather than waiting for the finished shoes and expecting the standard return option.

16 / THE DETAILS

How do you contact Converse about a return?

Converse’s U.S. Help Center lists 1-800-780-5409 for assistance. It also offers chat, listed as available Monday through Sunday, 9 a.m.–10 p.m. Eastern Time or 6 a.m.–7 p.m. Pacific Time.

Have the order number, email used for the purchase and the relevant dates ready. Explain whether you need a label, a size exchange, a refund update or help with a flaw. For a product bought elsewhere, identify that seller at the start so the team can direct you correctly.

If your question concerns a late return or a mismatch between the sale terms and the help page, ask for instructions for your specific purchase before sending the shoes. Keep the case reference and any written confirmation. For most standard returns, the best first move remains simple: open the official return service within 30 days and check the route and refund method before handing anything over.
