Carhartt.com generally allows 180 days from the order for original-condition items with tags. Regular stores have separate receipt and credit rules; Factory receipted returns use 60 days and clearance is final sale.
How to start a return
In a store
- Identify a regular retail or Factory location and the original purchase channel.
- Bring original-condition merchandise, tags, receipt and original payment method.
- For an online order, request portal assistance at a regular retail store.
Online or by mail
- Open the USA return portal with order number and email.
- Select items and put the Carhartt Return Copy inside the parcel.
- Attach the supplied UPS label; keep acceptance and tracking.
What is Carhartt’s return policy and how long do you have?
For a Carhartt.com order, the published deadline is 180 days from your order, with merchandise in its original condition and tags attached. Regular Carhartt retail stores also describe a 180-day period measured from the original purchase. Factory stores use a separate 60-day receipted-return rule.
Find the order or purchase date before counting the remaining time. Do not automatically start the online clock on delivery: the online FAQ says from the order. A delivery delay therefore does not create an extra 180 days after the package arrives. Keep the confirmation while you decide about fit.
The long standard window does not make every Carhartt-branded purchase interchangeable. The website return process is for Carhartt.com orders, Factory purchases have their own terms, and Reworked directs shoppers to a separate policy. Start with the seller on your receipt, then check the item’s condition and the route available for that purchase.
| Decision | Rule to check |
|---|---|
| Return window | 180 days standard; 60 days Factory receipted returns |
| Shipping or fees | UPS label supplied through portal; check any displayed terms. Original shipping is nonrefundable. |
| Main exceptions | Used or altered preference returns; Factory clearance; wrong purchase channel |
Can you return Carhartt clothing after wearing or washing it?
An ordinary Carhartt.com return must be in original condition with tags attached. Regular retail stores likewise require original purchased condition and tags; Factory stores explicitly say unwashed and unworn. A six-month deadline should not be read as permission to work in a jacket for six months and then return it because you prefer another style.
Try on clothing carefully while the tags remain attached, and decide before laundering, altering or putting it into daily use. For boots, inspect fit without exposing them to the conditions that would make them used work gear. These are practical ways to preserve condition, not a separate retailer promise about how every item will be assessed.
A manufacturing problem is a different question. Describe the defect to customer service rather than presenting a used garment as an unused preference return. Carhartt’s commitment excludes ordinary wear, misuse, neglect and obvious abuse, including normal wear involving hardware.
How do you return a Carhartt.com order by mail?
Use the USA return link on Carhartt’s Shipping & Returns page. Enter the order number and email address, select the merchandise and give the return reason. The process produces a Carhartt Return Copy for the parcel and a UPS Return Address Label for its exterior.
Check the selected products before packing, especially when you are keeping part of an order. Put the return copy inside, protect the clothing and attach the current label where the carrier can read it. Cover old shipping labels if you reuse a box. Follow the portal’s destination rather than an address found for a different Carhartt service.
Keep a copy of the authorization and obtain carrier acceptance evidence. A label proves that you prepared a return; tracking showing acceptance and delivery establishes the later stages. If the portal cannot find the order, compare the number and email with the original confirmation before contacting support.
Can you return a Carhartt online order without its packing slip?
Yes, Carhartt supplies an alternative when the original packing slip is missing. Include a note with the reason for return, order number, purchaser’s name, address and telephone number. You still need the merchandise to qualify and should complete the return process so the parcel has the appropriate label.
Look for the order number in the confirmation or shipment email, or in Order History under My Account. Customer service can also help at 1-800-833-3118. Losing the sheet that arrived in the box is therefore different from having no identifiable order at all.
Write or print the information clearly and put it inside the parcel, where the receiving team will see it after opening. Before sealing, check that the number belongs to the item being returned. A note identifying a different order can delay matching even when both purchases used the same customer name.
Are Carhartt return labels free, and is original shipping refunded?
Carhartt’s live instructions provide a UPS label through the return portal and explicitly say that original shipping charges are nonrefundable. The policy text does not give a universal return-label price, so check the actual portal terms before treating the label as either free or subject to a particular deduction.
The outbound charge and the return journey are separate amounts. For illustration, if merchandise cost $100 and the original delivery cost $10, an approved merchandise refund does not automatically restore all $110. That example explains the shipping exclusion; it is not an estimate for your order’s tax or other adjustments.
If the item arrived damaged, defective or different from what you ordered, contact Carhartt before paying for your own postage. Those problems have an explicit support route. Use the instructions supplied for the case and retain the shipping record until the company confirms that the return has been completed.
Can you exchange a Carhartt.com order for another size?
The online FAQ says Carhartt is currently unable to perform exchanges. For a routine Carhartt.com size change, plan around an eligible return and a separate new purchase rather than assuming the return parcel reserves a replacement.
Check availability and the current selling price before deciding when to reorder. A new purchase may require payment before the old order’s refund is released, and the returned size does not guarantee that a different size will remain available. The policy does not promise to carry an earlier discount over to that new order.
Regular retail and Factory store policies separately describe exchanges for the same product under their own terms. That is a store-specific option, not evidence that an online exchange is available. If you want help with an online order in a store, use a regular Carhartt location and ask the associate how the portal return and any new purchase will be handled.
Can you take a Carhartt.com return to a Carhartt store?
The regular retail policy provides help for Carhartt.com purchases within 180 days. It says the refund request goes through the Carhartt return portal, either started by you or completed with the assistance of a store associate.
Bring the merchandise, order confirmation and order number to a regular Carhartt store if you need that assistance. Ask what the store will do with the actual items and keep the resulting return confirmation. The wording supports an associate-assisted portal process; it should not be turned into a guarantee of an immediate cash refund at any location with Carhartt on its sign.
Factory stores do not accept online purchases or merchandise bought at other retail locations. A reseller carrying Carhartt is also different from a company retail store. Check the location type before traveling, particularly if your closest store is in an outlet center.
How are receipted returns handled at regular Carhartt retail stores?
With the original receipt, a qualifying regular-store return within 180 days uses the original purchase price plus applicable sales tax. The policy permits a refund to the original payment method or an exchange for the same product.
Keep tags attached and bring the item in its original purchased condition. The receipt establishes both the date and the actual price paid, which matters if the item has since been marked down. The policy’s current-sale-price calculation belongs to the receiptless route, not an ordinary timely return supported by the original receipt.
Before leaving the counter, check that the return record identifies the right merchandise and outcome. A refund to the original tender, an exchange and a merchandise credit are different transactions. If a purchase included several items but only one is being returned, keep the original receipt or a usable copy for the remaining purchases.
Does Carhartt accept returns after 180 days?
The regular retail store policy says a receipted return after 180 days is processed as merchandise credit for the amount paid. That is different from a payment-card refund, and the item must still satisfy the relevant return conditions.
This provision appears in the regular retail policy. It should not be extended to a mailed Carhartt.com order or to a Factory purchase as though every channel grants the same late-return option. If your online order is older than 180 days, obtain specific instructions rather than sending a parcel on the assumption that a credit is guaranteed.
When asking a store about an older purchase, explain the original purchase channel and date. Bring the receipt so the amount paid can be identified. Also ask how any credit will be issued and redeemed before accepting it, particularly if your reason for returning is that you no longer need Carhartt merchandise.
What happens at a regular Carhartt store without a receipt?
A regular retail store can use the current in-store sale price plus applicable tax for an item found in its point-of-sale system. The stated outcomes are an exchange for the same product or merchandise credit. If the item cannot be found in that system, it cannot be returned or exchanged in the store.
Carhartt also reserves the right to limit returns made without a store receipt. A recognizable brand label alone does not establish eligibility or recreate the amount you originally paid. Search for the receipt first, particularly when the current price is lower than your purchase price.
For illustration, a garment bought for $80 but currently selling for $50 could be valued using the $50 current price under this receiptless rule. Those are example amounts. Ask the associate to confirm the actual value and whether the product can be located before choosing between credit and an exchange.
How do Carhartt gift returns work?
At a regular Carhartt retail store, a gift receipt can support an exchange for another item or a gift card equal to the item’s purchase-time price. Factory gift receipts lead to a gift card equal to the price paid under that location’s separate terms.
That preserves the gift’s documented purchase value without promising cash to the recipient. Keep the gift receipt with the item and leave tags attached until you know it fits. If the gift was ordered online, identify the order and ask support how to handle it: the website’s standard refund route credits the original payment method.
Do not assume a recipient’s own card can receive a refund simply because the item was a gift. Before handing over the merchandise, establish whether the outcome will be a gift card, an exchange or a refund to the purchaser. That avoids losing track of where the returned value will appear.
What is the Carhartt Factory Store return policy?
Factory stores accept eligible discounted Factory merchandise in original condition, unwashed and unworn. With a receipt, the published refund or same-product exchange window is 60 days from purchase, at the original price plus applicable sales tax.
A refund normally goes to the original payment method. If you do not have that form of payment, the Factory policy says the refund becomes merchandise credit. Bring both the receipt and the original tender when possible if your aim is to recover the money to that payment method.
The Factory rules also restrict the purchase channel: online orders and gear purchased at other retail locations do not belong in this return route. Check the receipt heading and location before planning a trip. A nearby Factory store is not automatically an alternative return counter for a regular-store purchase, even if it stocks a similar jacket.
Can Factory clearance items or receiptless purchases be returned?
Factory clearance purchases are final sale. The Factory policy will not accept those returns, so do not assume a clearance item receives the ordinary 60-day receipted refund option.
Without a receipt, only items sold in the Factory assortment may qualify. The valuation uses the lowest sale price plus applicable tax, with an exchange for the same product or merchandise credit. Carhartt may refuse an item not offered in that assortment and may limit receiptless returns.
The difference from a regular store matters: regular retail wording uses its current sale price, while Factory wording uses the lowest sale price. For illustration, an item purchased for $70 that previously reached a $30 Factory low could be assessed using the lower amount under the Factory rule. Confirm the value before completing the transaction; neither a brand tag nor an original-looking condition guarantees the original purchase price.
Can altered, embroidered or defective Carhartt gear be returned?
Carhartt directs shoppers with defective, damaged or incorrect shipments to 1-800-833-3118. Explain the actual problem and keep photographs and order details available. A defect review is different from a change-of-mind return and does not promise a specific remedy before the item is assessed.
The regular retail terms say Carhartt assumes no liability for garments with added alterations, embroidery or ornamentation. Garments altered by a store associate cannot be returned or exchanged after the consumer signs off on the completed work. The Factory section has its own wording directing store-altered items to the location that performed the work, so ask that location before relying on an ordinary return.
Normal wear and tear, misuse, neglect and obvious abuse fall outside the stated commitment. Keep an explanation focused on what failed and when, rather than treating every worn zipper, faded area or heavily used garment as automatically defective.
How long does a Carhartt refund take, and who can help?
After Carhartt receives the return, the live refund FAQ says to allow 5–7 business days for credit to be released to the original payment method. Start that estimate from receipt by Carhartt, not from creating a label or leaving the parcel at a drop-off point.
Check the carrier record first if the refund has not appeared. If delivery is confirmed and the stated processing period has passed, provide support with the order number, tracking and return details. Ask whether the return has been matched and the credit released; that identifies the stage needing attention more clearly than asking only where the money is.
Contact 1-800-833-3118 or [email protected]. Reworked purchases have a separate return policy at Reworked.carhartt.com/returns. Use that channel for a Reworked order rather than applying the main site’s 180-day deadline or sending it with a label for a different purchase.
