Most eligible BJ’s merchandise has 365 days, but groceries and undamaged electronics have 90 days, selected home products have 30 days, and specified electronics damaged on initial inspection have 14 days. New condition, required accessories and purchase proof matter. Final Sale, payment, rewards, bulk and warranty-only restrictions can change eligibility.
How to start a return
In a store
- Take eligible merchandise and proof to the Member Services Desk.
- In-club, pickup and ExpressPay purchases must return in-club; certain Same-Day Delivery items do too.
- Include required accessories/packaging and confirm the original-payment refund.
Online or by mail
- For an eligible shipped BJs.com purchase, sign in and select Start a Return in Order History.
- Follow the order-specific route and review postage responsibility before sending.
- Pack securely and retain the return reference and carrier acceptance record.
What is BJ’s Wholesale Club’s return policy?
Most eligible BJ’s merchandise has 365 days, but several common purchases have much shorter windows. Groceries and undamaged electronics have 90 days. Selected home products have 30 days, while specified electronics found damaged on initial inspection have 14 days.
General merchandise must be in new condition with accessories intact, and proof of purchase is required. The same limitations apply to a refund and an exchange, so exchanging an excluded item is not an automatic workaround.
BJ’s also advertises a money-back guarantee on Berkley Jensen and Wellsley Farms products. Read that alongside the category rules: the groceries section still imposes a 90-day limit and proof requirement.
Find the product category before choosing a deadline. A television, a patio set and an ordinary unopened household item do not share one universal year-long trial. The table below highlights the differences that are easiest to miss when reading only the large “365 days” headline.
| Purchase or question | Rule | What matters |
|---|---|---|
| Most eligible merchandise | 365 days | New condition and purchase proof |
| Groceries | 90 days | Wellsley Farms guarantee has this limit |
| Undamaged electronics/e-bikes/scooters | 90 days | New condition, accessories and packaging |
| Selected air conditioners/patio items/mattresses | 30 days | Additional product restrictions apply |
| Specified initial-damage electronics | 14 days | Original packaging and accessories |
| SNAP/EBT purchases | 90 days from purchase | Original EBT account or same-item exchange |
When does the BJ’s return window start?
The starting point changes with fulfilment. BJ’s current FAQ counts from purchase for in-club and ExpressPay transactions, pickup for pickup orders, and delivery for shipped or Same-Day Delivery orders.
For illustration, a qualifying shipped item ordered on October 2 but delivered on October 7 uses the delivery date under that FAQ. A register purchase taken home on October 2 uses the purchase date instead.
Save the record for the applicable event: receipt, pickup confirmation or delivery information. That gives Member Care a clear way to identify the clock without having to infer when you received the product.
Some category descriptions also use purchase-date language, including groceries and SNAP/EBT. If a shorter category rule and an online fulfilment date produce different possible deadlines, confirm the return-by date with Member Care promptly. Do not rely on the general year-long headline to extend a specific restriction.
Can you return a TV, laptop, tablet or electric bike?
Undamaged electronics have 90 days. BJ’s list includes televisions, home-theater displays, computers and laptops, tablets, electronics, electric bikes and electric scooters. Items must be in new condition with accessories and packaging intact.
Keep the box, remote, charger and other included components while deciding whether the purchase is right for you. The 90-day period does not remove the condition requirement or create a general permission to return heavily used equipment.
If the issue might be setup rather than damage, BJ’s recommends its free Tech Advisors service at 877-832-4888 before returning. That may resolve a connection or configuration problem without transport.
A product discovered damaged on the initial inspection has a separate, shorter rule. Identify that issue immediately rather than assuming a broken television has the same handling as an undamaged one you no longer want. Do not let a support conversation distract you from the relevant return deadline.
What is the 14-day damaged-electronics rule?
Specified electronics found damaged on initial inspection can be returned within 14 days with their original packaging and accessories. The listed products include televisions, home-theater displays, computers and laptops, tablets, electric bikes and electric scooters.
Unbox and inspect those purchases promptly. Keep the packaging while checking the actual product, rather than discovering the damage after the carton has been discarded.
Record what you found and contact BJ’s about the appropriate return route. Photographs are useful practical records, particularly where the outer packaging or a particular component shows the arrival issue.
This provision describes damage identified on initial inspection. It is not a promise that any accident or failure occurring later gets the same 14-day treatment. For a later fault, give Member Care the facts and check the applicable manufacturer’s warranty or service arrangement. The condition and timing of the problem matter as well as the product category.
Which home products have only 30 days?
Portable and window air conditioners, patio sets and structures, and mattresses have a 30-day category window. The examples include dining and conversation sets, gazebos, pergolas, box springs and bed-in-a-box products.
That is a substantial difference from the general 365-day rule. A patio purchase kept for an entire season is not covered by a year-long preference-return promise simply because other household merchandise has longer.
Check condition restrictions as well. BJ’s manufacturer-service section specifically lists mattresses that have been taken out of their plastic covering or opened. Do not read the 30-day mattress heading as an unrestricted sleep trial.
Before opening a mattress or assembling a large outdoor purchase, confirm the actual terms and how an eligible return would be transported. Once opened, installed or affected by a warranty restriction, the straightforward return route may differ from the plan you had when reading the headline.
Can you return groceries and Wellsley Farms food?
Groceries have a 90-day limit and require proof of purchase. BJ’s specifically gives Wellsley Farms grocery and perishable products a money-back guarantee when you are unhappy with the purchase, while saying returns are not accepted after 90 days from purchase.
For a quality complaint, describe the actual product and what was wrong. Keep the purchase record and packaging details available so the team can identify the item rather than infer it from a broad description like “the frozen food.”
The guarantee is useful, but the large Berkley Jensen and Wellsley Farms headline should not be read as eliminating every category restriction. The current groceries paragraph supplies the more specific deadline.
If transporting the product is difficult or it is spoiled, ask Member Services what it needs before making the trip. That is practical preparation, not a published promise that a photograph alone always replaces the product or purchase proof.
Can you return an item without the BJ’s receipt?
You still need proof of purchase. BJ’s excludes items for which a member cannot provide proof and non-member returns without a receipt. A missing paper receipt should therefore prompt a search for the transaction, not an assumption that every item can be credited.
For a website order, start with the account’s order history and confirmation. For an in-club purchase, ask Member Services what purchase record it can use with the membership. The policy does not promise that recognising the product alone is sufficient.
Have the membership details and approximate transaction information ready when seeking help. Avoid handing over unrelated account information to a reseller or third-party return service; use the official club or Member Care route.
A gift recipient should also ask what accepted purchase documentation is available. The ordinary refund rule uses the original payment method, so a gift does not automatically create a cash payout to the person returning it.
How do you return a purchase at a BJ’s club?
Bring an eligible item to the Member Services Desk with its purchase proof. In-club, pickup and ExpressPay purchases must be returned in-club. Certain large or high-value Same-Day Delivery items also require that route.
Check the deadline and collect the required accessories and packaging before leaving. For a large or unusually heavy item, contact the club or Member Care about handling rather than arriving with it unannounced.
The terms of use say qualifying website and club purchases can be returned to a BJ’s store, subject to the return policy. The product restrictions still apply, even if the destination is convenient.
Keep the return confirmation after the visit. It identifies the accepted items and refund arrangement if you later need to ask about posting. For an ExpressPay purchase in particular, do not substitute the online mail flow for the required club return simply because the purchase was recorded on your phone.
How do you return a BJs.com purchase by mail?
For an eligible shipped purchase, sign in and use Start a Return in Order History. Follow the order-specific directions rather than mailing merchandise to an address found in an old discussion.
The online account identifies the transaction and the products available for that process. Pack the complete item securely, retain its return reference and save the carrier’s acceptance evidence.
If the option is absent, ask Member Care whether the product requires an in-club return or has another restriction. In-club, pickup and ExpressPay orders are not ordinary ship-it-back purchases, and certain Same-Day Delivery items also have to go to the club.
Confirm the cost before sending an unwanted item. BJ’s does not cover buyer’s-remorse return shipping. A prepaid label can simplify the process without necessarily making the service free, so review the instructions and the reason attached to your request before handing over the parcel.
Are return shipping and original delivery charges refunded?
A change of mind does not give you free return postage. BJ’s says it cannot cover shipping for buyer’s-remorse returns. Its current FAQ says applicable shipping, delivery and handling charges are refunded or credited only when the cancellation or return results from a BJ’s error or shipping or delivery damage.
For illustration, an approved return of a $100 item does not automatically recover an original $15 delivery charge or the postage you buy to send it back. Those amounts are separate from the merchandise refund.
For a damaged or incorrect shipment, explain that issue accurately before using a routine unwanted-item reason. The reason can affect how the charges are treated.
Ask for the return method and any expense in the same conversation. It is easier to compare a club trip with a mailed return while both options are available than to investigate a transport deduction after the parcel has already been sent.
Where does the refund go, and how long does it take?
BJ’s refunds the original payment method. The current FAQ says refunds are typically processed within five to seven days after approval. It does not label those as business days, so do not automatically add that qualification.
Approval is the important starting point. Calling about a purchase, handing it to a carrier and having the return approved are different events. Keep the confirmation that identifies which stage has occurred.
Check the credited amount against the item accepted, the original payment and any applicable transport charge. For a split-payment purchase, ask how the refund is allocated rather than assuming it all becomes cash or a gift card.
If processing appears delayed, give Member Care the return reference and approval date. A payment provider may also need the issued-refund information when tracing a credit. The retailer’s typical processing period is a useful expectation, not a guarantee that every bank account displays the money at the same moment.
How are SNAP/EBT returns handled?
Items purchased with SNAP/EBT must be returned within 90 days of purchase. BJ’s says the approved value can only go back to the SNAP/EBT account or be exchanged for the same item. It does not allow a cash, credit or gift-card refund for that portion.
That restriction concerns the payment source as well as the product. A qualifying grocery item does not become a cash refund simply because the store would otherwise accept the return.
For a transaction paid partly with another method, bring the purchase details so Member Services can identify which amount was paid from each source. Ask how the actual transaction will be handled rather than treating the whole basket as one payment type.
Use the normal official return route and explain the original tender. That is more productive than requesting a different refund type that the published SNAP/EBT provision specifically excludes.
Which products are final sale or non-returnable?
BJ’s current exclusion list goes well beyond products labelled Final Sale. It includes trading cards whether opened or unopened; lottery tickets, tobacco products and alcohol; gift cards; opened DVDs, software and video games; opened massage chairs; and products marked ineligible.
Other exclusions involve special-event purchases, reseller purchases, missing proof and certain bulk transactions. Items with gas, oil or fuel added are also listed. An unused, unfilled propane tank is treated separately in the FAQ and may be returned in new condition.
Look at the designation before buying collectibles or opening recorded media. The unopened trading-card rule is especially easy to miss if you assume a sealed pack must be returnable.
A refund and an exchange have the same limitations. Asking to swap an excluded product for another one does not automatically remove its restriction. For an actual arrival problem, describe it to Member Care so it can identify the applicable handling.
Do rewards, Fuel Saver discounts or bulk quantities affect eligibility?
They can. BJ’s reserves the right to deny returns involving items that contributed to a redeemed reward or discount, including a Fuel Saver benefit. Do not assume the return is independent of a promotion already used.
Bulk purchases have another restriction. The terms of use define the excluded transaction as ten or more selling units of the same product with a total price over $1,000 in one transaction, online or in a store. Those bulk purchases are final sale. The current return page also flags the online bulk-purchase version.
For illustration, ten identical $110 units total $1,100 and meet both the quantity and value conditions in that definition. The figures illustrate the rule; they are not a product offer.
If you are buying for an event or organisation, check this before ordering. Dividing an excluded return into smaller parcels afterward does not change the transaction that established its eligibility.
Are optical products, tires and warranty-only items different?
Yes, these need their specialist provisions. BJ’s Optical generally excludes prescription eyewear and contact lenses, although an unopened, unmarked contact-lens box at least a year from expiration may qualify. New optical accessories can have a one-year window. Optical return questions go to [email protected].
For tires, visit the club or call the tire team at 844-700-TIRE. Do not assume an online parcel-return label is the correct route for a mounted tire.
Products subject to manufacturer service-center-only restrictions are not returnable to BJ’s under that provision. Examples include certain gas-powered equipment, generators and outdoor recreational products. The page also lists opened mattresses in that section.
The practical distinction is between returning an eligible new item and obtaining service for a product with restricted warranty handling. Identify the exact purchase before arranging movement, and ask the specialist team to explain the route that applies.
What happens after the deadline, and who can help?
BJ’s says purchases more than one year old are not eligible for return. Shorter category periods still apply within that year. A manufacturer’s warranty may provide a separate service route, but it is not an extension of the ordinary return window.
Call Member Care at 1-800-257-2582 for membership, club, product or website questions. Published Eastern Time hours are Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–7 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.; Sunday, noon–6 p.m. Have the membership number and purchase details ready.
For a return that seems wrongly classified, ask which category, starting date or exclusion is being applied. That creates a concrete question to resolve. It is more useful than relying on an old general summary that says everything has a year or assuming a warehouse-club membership removes the conditions listed on the current policy.
