Walgreens
return policy.

Walgreens’ 30-day returns, no-receipt refunds, opened cosmetics, brand guarantee and special photo, contact lens and hearing aid rules explained.

By October 9, 2026

The short answer

Most eligible Walgreens and Walgreens.com merchandise can be returned to a store within 30 days of purchase with a receipt or order number. No-receipt returns need manager approval and receive gift card credit. Hearing aids, contact lenses, photo orders, prescriptions and restricted products have separate rules.

How to start a return

In a store

  1. Bring eligible merchandise, the receipt or order number, and the original payment card when applicable.
  2. Return within 30 days of purchase unless a specific category has different terms.
  3. Ask for the return receipt and confirm the refund method.

Online or by mail

  1. Find the order receipt through account Purchase History.
  2. Take ordinary eligible online merchandise to a Walgreens store.
  3. Contact lenses, shipped photo orders and bulky medical equipment use separate routes described below.

What is the Walgreens return policy?

Most eligible merchandise purchased at a Walgreens store or Walgreens.com can be returned or exchanged at a Walgreens store within 30 days of purchase, with the original receipt or order number. Product restrictions and special categories still apply.

The purchase date matters. Do not substitute the delivery date for a Walgreens.com order unless Walgreens gives you order-specific instructions that say otherwise. Check the receipt first, then identify whether the product belongs to a special category such as hearing aids, contact lenses or photo orders.

For a straightforward return, gather the merchandise, proof of purchase and the payment card if you paid by card. Tell the associate whether you want a refund or an exchange. A recent purchase and a receipt make the transaction easier to identify, but they do not override a category that Walgreens lists as restricted.

How do you return something to a Walgreens store?

Take eligible merchandise to a Walgreens store within the applicable period, with the original receipt or online order number. Walgreens says ordinary eligible purchases can be returned at any Walgreens store, so the policy does not require every customer to travel to the original location.

Bring the payment card used for the purchase if you have it. It helps the associate process a card refund. Keep packaging and accessories together when available, especially for an item with several parts. Do not assume an incomplete product will be handled the same way as a complete return.

Explain the reason accurately: wrong product, changed mind, defective item or damage on arrival. Before leaving, check the return receipt and keep it until the payment account or gift card shows the expected amount. The receipt documents what Walgreens actually processed.

03 / THE DETAILS

Can you return a Walgreens online order in a store?

Yes, eligible Walgreens.com merchandise can generally go to a Walgreens store under the standard 30-day rule. Use the order number or receipt to identify the online transaction. The normal route is a store return, rather than a universal mail-return service for all products.

You can obtain purchase information by opening your account, going to Purchases and Purchase History, selecting the order number and choosing the print or PDF option. Have the document or order details ready before you reach the counter.

Check the product category before taking the trip. Contact lenses have a dedicated return process, and bulky medical equipment cannot be returned in a store. If an order contains an ordinary household product and a restricted item, review them separately instead of assuming the entire shipment follows one set of rules.

04 / THE DETAILS

Can you return to Walgreens without a receipt?

A return without the original receipt or order number requires manager approval. If accepted, Walgreens says the refund is issued on a Walgreens gift card. That is a discretionary remedy, not a guaranteed cash or payment-card refund.

Before making a no-receipt request, check your online Purchase History for the transaction. A Walgreens.com order number may let you use the normal receipted process instead. If someone else bought the item, ask whether they can provide the purchase information.

When you truly cannot identify the sale, tell the store at the start. Ask what credit would be offered before agreeing to the return. The posted FAQ does not promise that every store can locate every missing transaction through a phone number, rewards account or payment card alone.

05 / THE DETAILS

Can you return opened makeup, skincare or cosmetics?

Walgreens identifies cosmetics as a category handled at the store manager’s discretion, generally with refunds issued on a Walgreens gift card. It does not publish an unconditional promise that every opened cosmetic will be accepted for a cash refund.

Describe the product’s condition and why you want to return it. Bring the receipt, the remaining product and packaging you still have. A damaged product, a defective pump and an opened item you simply dislike are different situations, even though all three might involve the same type of skincare bottle.

Check whether the item is a Walgreens brand product, because that guarantee has separate wording. For another brand, rely on the category-specific discretion in the return FAQ. Avoid opening additional products from a multipack once you have decided to ask the store for help.

06 / THE DETAILS

Can you return electronics to Walgreens?

Electronics returns are also subject to store manager discretion. Walgreens says discretionary refunds are generally issued on a Walgreens gift card. The ordinary 30-day period does not turn every electronic purchase into a guaranteed original-payment refund.

Keep the device, packaging, cables and any accessories together. Explain whether the issue is a defect, a missing component or a change of mind. The associate may need those details to determine the appropriate route.

Mobile phones are separately listed among restricted products, so do not assume the electronics discretion rule guarantees their acceptance. If a product page or receipt supplies additional terms, bring those terms with you. Checking the exact item before visiting is more useful than relying on a general claim that all Walgreens electronics have the same return treatment.

07 / THE DETAILS

What is the Walgreens brand satisfaction guarantee?

Walgreens brand products have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you are dissatisfied, Walgreens says you can bring back the unused portion for a refund of the full purchase price, including shipping. The FAQ directs customers to Walgreens or Duane Reade stores for this guarantee.

The wording matters: it is specific to Walgreens brand products. A national-brand product sold on the same shelf does not automatically receive identical treatment. Check the brand on the packaging rather than treating the entire store assortment as covered.

The guarantee does not state a separate numeric extended deadline in the posted FAQ. It should therefore not be rewritten as an unlimited lifetime return promise. Bring purchase information and the unused portion, explain the issue and ask the store how the guarantee applies to your product.

08 / THE DETAILS

Which products are restricted or nonreturnable?

Walgreens lists restrictions on gift cards, prepaid cards, phone cards, mobile phones, bathing suits, underwear, earrings, sexual wellness products, seasonal merchandise, hazardous materials and COVID-19 test kits. A receipt and an early return date do not erase these product restrictions.

Look at the specific item before applying the general 30-day policy. For example, a prepaid card and an ordinary household accessory purchased on the same receipt can have different outcomes. Ask about a damaged or incorrect restricted product through customer support rather than assuming a routine change-of-mind refund.

Keep any item-specific terms from the receipt or product page. The FAQ says product pages may have additional return instructions. If you are unsure how the category applies, provide the exact product name when contacting Walgreens so the answer addresses your purchase.

09 / THE DETAILS

How long do you have to return hearing aids or large medical equipment?

Hearing aids have a 45-day return period from purchase, according to the Walgreens FAQ. That is a specific exception to the standard merchandise window. Bring the purchase details and ask for the handling instructions for your hearing aid order.

Bulky medical products follow a different route. Walgreens says wheelchairs, scooters, lift chairs and oversized medical equipment cannot be returned to a store. Call 1-877-250-5823 for assistance before trying to move or ship the equipment.

Have the order number, product model and delivery details ready. Ask how pickup or shipping will work and what paperwork is required. Do not interpret the special route as a promise of free collection, an automatically longer trial period or acceptance of every used product; those details need order-specific confirmation.

10 / THE DETAILS

Can you return contact lenses bought from Walgreens?

Contact lenses cannot be returned to Walgreens stores. The FAQ describes eligible situations including receiving the wrong lenses, a damaged or defective product, or an incorrect prescription. The standard box-return route accepts unopened, unexpired, undamaged in-stock boxes in their original packaging. For damaged or defective lenses, explain the problem to support before mailing so it can confirm the appropriate handling.

The policy excludes made-to-order lenses from the ordinary stock-item route. Identify the product and problem before beginning the return, especially if some boxes are opened and others are still sealed.

The contact lens section does not supply a clear separate numeric deadline for every situation. Do not assume the ordinary merchandise window automatically resolves that question. Use the dedicated process and ask support about your order. Contact lens accessories are treated separately: they can generally be returned to a store within 30 days with original packaging and the receipt.

11 / THE DETAILS

How do you get a Walgreens contact lens return label?

Walgreens directs contact lens customers to its USPS return-label center at wgreturns.com. Use the link in the official Walgreens FAQ so you reach the intended return service. This label route is specific to contact lenses, not a free-shipping promise for all Walgreens merchandise.

Follow the instructions, use the invoice to identify the returned items and circle the relevant products as directed. Package the eligible boxes securely and keep the tracking details after handing over the shipment.

Walgreens says it sends an email after the return is processed. A carrier delivery scan and that processing email are separate milestones. If you need help with an incorrect or damaged lens order, describe the issue before mailing so you do not send an ineligible product through the normal unopened-box process.

12 / THE DETAILS

Can you return a prescription to Walgreens?

Prescription medication does not follow the ordinary retail merchandise process. Walgreens explains that medications cannot generally be returned for reuse or resale. Prescription errors and related issues require special handling through the pharmacy, rather than a standard front-counter return.

For a store-filled prescription, contact the pharmacy that dispensed it. For a shipped prescription, the FAQ directs error reports to 1-877-250-5823, where special return authorization may be requested. Have the prescription number and dispensing information available. Let the pharmacy explain whether an authorization or another process applies.

Do not mail prescription medication using a contact lens label or a generic merchandise address. Those routes are for different products. If you believe you received the wrong medication, direct that concern to the pharmacy promptly; this return guide does not determine what you should take or how a medication should be disposed of.

13 / THE DETAILS

What is the Walgreens Photo return policy?

Walgreens Photo has a satisfaction guarantee offering a refund or replacement, subject to verification. The route depends on how you received the order, so identify whether it was collected at a store or shipped to you.

For a pickup order, contact the store that handled the photo purchase. Bring the order information and explain the problem, such as a printing issue or missing part of the order. For a shipped photo order, contact [email protected] or call 1-866-264-2910.

Keep the photos or photo product and any packaging until the team tells you what is needed. The Photo guarantee should not be reduced to the ordinary merchandise rule or treated as permission to discard the product before verification. State whether you prefer a corrected replacement or a refund when asking for help.

14 / THE DETAILS

How does Walgreens issue refunds, including gift returns?

Eligible receipted refunds generally use the original payment method. For online orders returned in a store, Walgreens specifies credit to the original card, or cash when the order was paid by check or PayPal. Taxes are refunded at the local rate. Bring the original payment card when applicable and keep the return receipt as your record of the destination and amount.

If there is no receipt or order number, manager-approved returns receive a Walgreens gift card. Cosmetics and electronics also fall under the discretionary treatment described above, generally with gift card refunds.

For a gift, obtain the receipt or order details from the purchaser if possible. The posted FAQ does not promise cash to every gift recipient. Ask about the available refund or exchange before surrendering the item. Check the merchandise amount and tax calculation on the return record rather than expecting an undocumented shelf price.

15 / THE DETAILS

How long does a Walgreens refund take, and what about late returns?

The main return FAQ does not give one universal bank-posting estimate for every standard store refund. Processing a return at the counter and seeing the credit in your account can occur at different times. Save the transaction record and use it when following up.

For contact lenses, look for the email confirming processing. For a photo issue, follow the photo team’s instructions. Different departments should not be assigned a single invented refund timetable.

Returns after 30 days are subject to manager discretion unless a specific product rule or guarantee applies. A request made late is not automatically approved. Explain the timing and reason, bring your purchase details and ask what remedy is available. The hearing aid period and Walgreens brand guarantee should be assessed under their own wording.

16 / THE DETAILS

What should you do if an online order arrives damaged?

Call 1-877-250-5823 for help with damaged Walgreens.com merchandise. Keep the order number and describe which products arrived damaged. Retain the parcel and product packaging until customer support tells you what it needs.

If the shipment contains several products, identify the damaged item separately from the items you are keeping. Photos and a short list of the affected products can help you explain what happened, although the team decides what documentation is required.

Ask whether the next step is a store return, replacement or a product-specific route. Use the photo contact for shipped photo orders and the contact lens instructions for lenses. Before ending the conversation, confirm the action, any deadline and how you will receive confirmation, so the issue is tied to a clear next step.
