If you bought from thenorthface.com, eligible US orders have a 30-day return window from purchase, with items unused, unwashed and unaltered. Standard returns are free. You can return online purchases by mail or at a North Face retail store, but orders paid with PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay or Google Pay must use the mail route. XPLR Pass members have a limited worn-gear exception; final-sale items and purchases from other sellers need separate treatment.
How long do you have to return North Face gear?
Count 30 days from your purchase date, even if your online order arrived several days later. The same window applies when you take an eligible online purchase to a North Face retail store.
Start your return early. The published policy does not establish whether requesting, shipping or receiving a mailed return must happen by day 30, so a last-day drop-off is a gamble. Keep your carrier receipt until the refund is settled.
If you bought at a physical store or outlet, check your receipt or contact that location for its purchase-specific terms. The online policy does not establish a complete return window for those purchases. Official US returns policy.

| Eligible thenorthface.com order | Online return portal or a North Face retail store | 30 days from purchase; standard condition rules apply |
| Online order paid with PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay or Google Pay | Online return portal for a mailed return | Not eligible for an in-store return |
| Original store or outlet purchase | Your receipt and the store | Cannot use the online return process |
| Qualifying XPLR Pass field test | Membership terms and your original dated receipt | 30 days; purchase-channel and annual limits apply |
| Renewed or another retailer’s purchase | That seller’s return service | Separate purchase terms |
| Item marked final sale | Your item’s sale terms | Do not assume the normal return allowance applies |
Can you return worn gear or an item without tags?
For a standard online-order return, keep your gear unused, unwashed and unaltered. Opening a delivery bag does not, by itself, establish that you used the item. The published rule does not list attached tags or original packaging as mandatory, although keeping both can make your return easier to identify.
If you have already worn the item, check your XPLR Pass eligibility before mailing it. The field-testing benefit allows reasonable wear from limited intended use within 30 days, subject to North Face approval. You need your original dated receipt, and the purchase must come from thenorthface.com or a full-price North Face store. Outlet and third-party purchases are excluded.
The benefit allows two uses per calendar year, covering up to four items with a combined MSRP of $1,200. Heavily worn, abused or destroyed gear does not qualify. Membership does not give you an unlimited trial period. Standard conditions · Field-testing terms.
Can you return an online order in a North Face store?
You can take an eligible online order to a North Face retail store within 30 days of purchase. Check how you paid before making the trip. PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay and Google Pay orders are excluded from in-store returns, so start a mail return for those purchases.
Bring your order number or confirmation email. If you want a credit-card refund, the authorized cardholder must be present with the same card; without them, the policy allows store credit instead.
If your purchase originally came from a physical store, take its receipt to the store or call for instructions. You cannot send it through the online return process. The separate permission to exchange an online order at an outlet does not establish an outlet-purchase return policy. Store return requirements.
What if you lost the receipt or received the item as a gift?
Look for your confirmation email or online order history first. Recovering your order details can preserve a refund route that would otherwise become a discretionary exchange.
Without an original receipt, exchange receipt or online order details, store management may allow a merchandise exchange at the item’s lowest selling price. Approval is discretionary, and this exception does not promise cash or a refund to your card.
For an online gift return, ask the purchaser for the order number, last name and ZIP code used at checkout. Contact North Face customer service if you cannot obtain them. Before submitting the return, confirm who will receive the refund; the gift instructions do not promise that the gift recipient receives a gift card. Receipt and gift-return help.
How do you return a North Face order by mail?
Use Order Status as a guest, or sign in and open Order Details. Have your eight-digit order number and the purchaser’s last name ready, along with the purchaser’s ZIP code for a gift return.
- Select the item, return reason and available return method.
- Pack your item securely; you can reuse the delivery box or bag.
- Print and attach the label, or choose the QR option for free label printing at FedEx Office.
- Drop the parcel at the selected return location and save your tracking receipt.
If you choose USPS, arrive with the package prepared and the label printed. Its locations cannot print the return label or pack the item for you. These mailing steps apply to shipped returns; you do not need a shipping label for a counter return. Official return instructions.
Are North Face returns free, and when will you get your refund?
The North Face advertises free returns on all orders. Use its official return process so you receive the available label or drop-off instructions. Free return shipping does not establish whether your original delivery charge will be refunded; ask customer service if that charge affects your decision. The reviewed policy also gives no explicit restocking-fee rule. Free-returns policy.
For a mailed return, refund processing begins after the distribution center receives and reviews your parcel. North Face then emails you when the refund is initiated. An accepted in-store return triggers the refund when that return is complete. The policy gives no fixed number of days for a mail refund to reach your account, although it describes FedEx as the fastest return option.
Refunds normally follow your original payment method. The FAQ says a gift-card payment produces an emailed gift card. If you paid with an XPLR reward, read the rewards section before counting on the refund amount: the FAQ and current loyalty terms do not explain their differing treatment of redeemed rewards.
If tracking shows delivery but you have no refund confirmation, contact customer service with your order and tracking numbers. Refund process and payment rules.
What happens to XPLR Pass points and redeemed rewards?
Returning a purchase removes the points you earned on it; the current terms allow 1–10 days for that account adjustment.
A reward you spent on the purchase needs more care. The returns FAQ says purchases paid with rewards receive an emailed gift card, while the current XPLR terms say the redeemed reward’s value and corresponding points are not returned. Neither page explains how those statements interact. Ask XPLR support how your particular return will be refunded before assuming you will recover the reward value.
An announced change begins October 7, 2026. The XPLR FAQ says that when you return an item bought using a redeemed reward, the points used to create that reward will be returned to your account. It also says points earned before that date retain their earlier terms. For a purchase or reward spanning the change, confirm which rules apply to your transaction.

Can you exchange your item for another size or color?
North Face does not offer online exchanges. Its FAQ allows an online order to be exchanged at a North Face store or outlet. Contact the location before traveling if your order used one of the payment methods excluded from in-store returns; the exchange answer does not explain whether those exclusions are handled differently.
If you need the replacement shipped, return the eligible original order and place a new order. Check the replacement’s price and availability first, because the FAQ does not promise to preserve your original discount. Exchange instructions.
Can you return sale, outlet or Renewed items?
A sale price alone does not tell you whether an item is returnable. Look for the item-specific final-sale notice on your product page and purchase details. The North Face sale listing marks selected products as final sale with no returns, so a generic free-returns banner is not enough to establish eligibility. Official sale listing.
For an outlet purchase, check with the outlet that sold it. The permission to exchange online orders at outlets does not establish the rules for purchases made there, and outlet purchases do not qualify for XPLR field testing. Exchange policy · XPLR exclusions.
If you bought from The North Face Renewed, use that storefront’s help and return service to check your order’s terms. Its separate purchase process should not be confused with the main site’s online return route. For gear bought from REI, a department store or another seller, start with that seller’s return policy.
What if 30 days have passed or your gear is defective?
If your return is late, ask customer service whether it can still be accepted before sending anything. North Face says an item outside the window may no longer qualify, which leaves acceptance uncertain. You should not count on an extension, but the wording does not establish that every late return is automatically refused.
For a manufacturing defect, you can request a separate warranty evaluation. Most North Face branded products carry a limited lifetime warranty for manufacturing defects during the product’s practical expected life. Footwear and Renewed products instead have one-year defect coverage. The limited lifetime warranty belongs to the original owner, except where transfer restrictions are prohibited by law; proof of purchase may be required.
Normal wear, improper care, misuse and unauthorized alterations are excluded. Coverage also depends on buying from North Face or an authorized seller. Submit photos through the warranty claim form, and describe when the fault appeared and how it affects your gear.
North Face lists a 5–7-business-day claim response and, for approved repairs, typically 2–3 weeks after warehouse receipt, extending up to eight weeks during peak periods. Approval may result in repair, replacement or a gift card. These are warranty timings, not ordinary return-refund estimates. Warranty coverage and claim form.
Does North Face extend its return window for holiday gifts?
No current holiday extension appears in the official US return materials checked for this guide. Plan around the published purchase-date window unless your order confirmation or North Face supplies a specific extension. If you are buying a gift well ahead of the occasion, check its return deadline before ordering. Current return policy.
What should you check before taking or sending your return?
- Find the purchase date and allow time before the online order’s 30-day deadline.
- Check the seller, item condition and any final-sale notice on your purchase.
- Recover your receipt or order details. Without them, ask about the discretionary exchange option before traveling.
- Check your payment method. Online PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay and Google Pay orders need the mail route.
- For a store credit-card refund, bring the same card and its authorized cardholder.
- For a mailed return, follow the portal’s instructions and keep your tracking receipt.
- If you used a reward, confirm its refund treatment before counting on that value.
